But they may not be able to move so easily. TMZ is also reporting that the Robertson family's A&E contract precludes the clan from doing another show for a certain period of time.

A&E contract precludes the clan from doing another show for a certain period of time.

Since A+E suspended the number one character of the show, that's evidence that they wanted to destroy the show, thereby the Ducks are free to fly.

depends on the contract language.....a good lawyer should be able to get a release based on the suspension...

Exactly. A hostile work environment should be enough to nullify the contract.

Hard to enforce a “non compete” of any kind when you are the party that cancelled the contract. Certainly I don’t know the ins and outs of this, but I would be shocked if there is not a way around it. Even if the show had to slightly change the name…… where there is market demand and a product available, no legalese can prevent the two from meeting.

The Robertsons don’t have to break the contract A&E will.

All the Robertson’s have to do is ... nothing.

If A&E just wants to film them doing nothing with Phil constantly there :) then they are welcome too. A&E can’t force the Robertsons to do ANYTHING funny or entertaining. So if A&E wants to have a season 5 of just watching them make duck calls without saying a word, then let them.

>>> A&E contract precludes the clan from doing another show for a certain period of time.

A&E breached their side of the contract by denying Robertson freedom of speech.

Robertsons need to sue A&E for breech of contract, and then buy what is left of A&E like they bought that winery.

In the meantime, they should bring in another network to film the whole process.

If A&E loses DD, they will simply go back to the irrelevant Arts and Entertainment of the past.

They should just give plenty of interviews in which they state the same thing regarding homosexuality that Phil did. A&E would either have to admit their mistake or let the whole family go.

exactly.

A&E has no control over what the Robertsons do on the show either. So they Robertsons can sit around and say nothing, or only talk about the bible, or only show up with Phil :)

There are a million ways the Robertsons can force A&E to cave and void their contract. Releasing the Robertsons to put their show on another channel.

Is that a reference that I’m unfamiliar with or is it a newly (genetically) modified “Rubber Tree Plant”?

Many performance contracts have a morals clause (I know, funny in Hollywood, right?) and I would like to know if there was such a clause in this contract.

Then, is expressing your views about what the definition of sin is a morals clause violation?

Doesn’t that sound like it would be the most hypocritical scenario possible?

Literally, an actor expressing his thoughts on morality is fired for violating a morals clause...

The world is upside down.

It might be a lesson to any other group that hits it big - in the contract: “Furlough one, furlough all - See Ya!”

I remember when Showtime canceled Stargate SG-1 after five years and replaced it with a truly ghastly show about promiscuous gays*. SciFi picked SG-1 up and, although the switch from SHO to SCIFI resulted in the show being toned-down a bit, it went on by its 7th season to become the top rated SciFi show in the entire world (per TV Guide). At went 213 episode and two movies.

* The gay show collapsed

I think that is part of a song from the late 1950’s or early 60s called “High Hopes”. It’s a duet. It may have been sung by Frank Sinatra and a little boy in a movie. That song and one by Ray Charles “Hit The Road Jack” are two of the first radio songs I recall ever hearing around the house as a child.
