I think much of this is due to the stupid refusal of the current leadership at Microsoft to fix Windows 8. Or, for that matter, their stupid refusal to provide alternate startup pages, for touch users and for keyboard-desktop-laptop users.

I’m still on Windows 7, but who knows where this is going if they don’t wise up NOW!

Not sure what you mean. I have 8.1 on 3 machines, 1 laptop, 1 tablet and one server, and all work great with touch or traditional input. I've even recently given up my Samsung Note 10.1 as my Windows tablet (still an Android phone guy and the kids tablets, wife, etc) does far more, faster.

I agree with you in part. I think that MS could have fixed that issue with 8.1. 8.1 allows a user to now be able to boot to the desktop but they still have to access the start page for the apps. They should have added a start menu even though there are start up apps available like Start 8. Win 8 does have some nice features like storage space and file history. I still believe that people are moving to away from desktop computing to tablets and phones though. Especially with cloud services like Google Drive and Sky Drive available at a decent price.
