During WWII, Daddy sent his paycheck home to Mother along with the allotment she got anyway. He sold his cigarette ration to the other soldiers for more money than he could spend anyway.

It’s strange to think of a time when the government actually gave cigarettes to the soldiers as part of their rations. All things considered, I’d trade these days for those.

When I was stationed overseas in the 80's we still had alcohol and tobacco ration cards. I sold my cigarette ration to my roommate for a tidy profit.
