A senior admiral of the Iranian navy said on Feb. 8 that Tehran is sending two warships near American waters in retaliation for U.S. naval deployments around Iran.
Irans military fleet is approaching the United States maritime borders, and this move has a message, Adm. Afshin Rezayee Haddad told Iranian state media, according to U.S. news reports.
Haddad called the deployment Irans response to Washingtons beefed up naval presence in the Persian Gulf.
Never mind that the U.S. Navy has actually reduced its forces in the Persian Gulf. Today the Navy has just one nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the USS Harry S. Truman, in the Gulf along with the amphibious assault ship Boxer. Two years ago the Americans had two carriers near Iran, but budget cuts ended that that practice.
Theyre pretty crappy ships by anybodys standards. Sabalan is a British-built Vosper Mk. V frigate launched in 1969, making her 45 years old today. Displacing just 1,500 tonsaround 15 percent the weight of the U.S. Navys Arleigh Burke-class destroyersSabalan has a crew of around 125 and is armed with four anti-ship missiles and some guns. A far cry from the 100 or so missiles that most American surface warships carry. . .

LOL, the blending in is so subtle I barely noticed!
And which the US Navy bombed but chose not to sink during Operation Praying Mantis.
Wrong choice, IMO ... we should have sent it to Davy Jones along with its littermate Sahand.
I really doubt obama would seriously retaliate. What he would do is install martial law that would be difficult to ever get rid of.
The ultimate Reichstag fire.
Make them disappear. Middle of the night place a few mines on the hull and slink away.
A frigate is pretty much your basic entry level ocean going vessel. I would not want to be in a war on a frigate with only an oiler as support. It would not turn out well.
A nuke delivered in a $50 used refrigerator can kill a million people... Yeah, the ship’s a piece of crap. So what? “Demonstrators” in Benghazi killed armed SEALS... and the weight of our whole military couldn’t do diddly squat about it.
You get em right after that beach the rust buckets, and ask for asylum.
They are probably being accompanied by an Iranian submarine hoping to ambush any surface warships that attack or approach the Kharg and Sabalan.
A couple of nukes above DC would wipe Iran in perpetuity. You are correct, they aren’t that stupid to launch ANYTHING at the US.
If the Iranians popped an EMP on us, can they count on absolutely zero U.S. response against Persian cities or territory? Is our defensive stance that demoralized and/or compromised under this administration?
Real question.
No one laughed when the Cole was hit either.
Did they send them over here to scuttle them? ;-)
All these “crappy” warships need to do is to shoot a missile anywhere near the Atlantic coast, and detonate it. That is it. One EMP will bring down the country. And at that point it doesn’t even have to be an Iranian missile. It could have been one sent from Russia or China, with the latest technology.
I would find it amusing if one starts to sink, and our Coast Guard ends up rescuing the crew.
“And we live a life of ease,
every one of us, has all we need,
a sub of blue (a sub of blue), a sea of green (sea of green),
in our turquoise (in our turquoise) submarine! (submarine, Yah-hah!)”
They all sink in the same direction.
I wonder which one of our attack subs is trailing this "state of the art" fleet?
As my ex nuke sub commander neighbor says about surface ships “Ah, more targets wanting to be future subs”.
Wrong. The weight of our military was not deployed. This was a choice. Several different assets could have assisted but choices were made and that did not happen.
Hey, I thought those old subs were supoosed to be pink! :-)
