Fuel supplies. Don’t piss Putin off or there may be a, uh, “disruption” in fuel deliveries to the eu. Blame would probably go to Chechan rebels. Kinda like a “who controls the energy” kind of thing. Hmmmmm. Where have we heard someone talk about energy control before.................

Why are there no protests in Europe and elsewhere against the Russian invasion of Ukraine?

"Protests" target the perpetually guilty, looking for a reason to yield.

Why were 99% of protests in the two Germanys against the US? Why were there no protests in the "third Germany" (now Poland and Russia)?

You don't organize "protests" against a hungry bear. You just don't.

Russian Army maps still have the roads to Berlin highlighted.

No need to protest. They all know Emperor Canigula will put a stop to it in the next century or so.

The history and reality on the ground are 1,000 times more complex than "good Ukrainian freedom fighters vs evil Russian invaders."

For one thing, Russian gas keeps Europe from freezing to death in the winter. A war in Ukraine would be a disaster for Europe.

I doubt your average dumbassed ‘peace protester’ thinks that deeply. They are simply reflexively anti-western.

Reminds me of a quote from Hitler...

Our strength is our quickness and our brutality. Genghis Khan had millions of women and children hunted down and killed, deliberately and with a gay heart. History sees in him only the great founder of States. What the weak Western European civilization alleges about me, does not matter. I have given the order – and will have everyone shot who utters but one word of criticism – that the aim of this war does not consist in reaching certain designated [geographical] lines, but in the enemies' physical elimination. Thus, for the time being only in the east, I put ready my Death's Head units, with the order to kill without pity or mercy all men, women, and children of the Polish race or language. Only thus will we gain the living space that we need. Who still talks nowadays of the extermination of the Armenians?

Sadly, that is an entirely bogus quote. Really. Even though it’s been “quoted” a million times on the internet, there is no evidence that Hitler ever said it or wrote it. It first “appears” long after Hitler was dead.

“The problem with internet quotes is that so many of them are false.” -—Abraham Lincoln

Keep in mind that Russia's most important, critical, necessary naval bases are in the Crimea, and always have been.

Would we give up Hawaii and our naval bases there if native Hawaiian radicals took over downtown Oahu and ordered us out?

Hmmm...

Must look into this
I've seen the putative original German quote
But of course, it could also be synthetic

It’s TOTALLY synthetic. Trust me.

I almost put a bogus Cicero quote at the front of a book. At the last moment I decided to really check it out in depth. It was the one you have seen many times about the traitor inside the walls being worse than an external enemy etc. Totally bogus. It made me very careful about quotes. Half of the “Jefferson quotes” I see are bogus.

Your point on fuel supplies is correct. I’d advance that thought to add it’s just another example of hoping the alligator eats them last.

They never got involved in Yugoslavia, why should they get involved in Ukraine?

The Russians are not a military threat to the EU.

The Russian power over the EU is via those gas pipelines, not tanks or jets.
