That's absolutely true. I canceled my Comcrap account (which was being paid this way), and asked the bank if they could block that charge, in case Comcrap decided to keep charging me (they didn't). But the bank told me the only way would be to close the entire account and open a new one.
If someone opened a gym that was staffed by a human who could make correct change ,took only cash and charged by the hour, they’d have a hell of a business model.

Actually I would think it would be more of a problem to set up a recurring payment using your checking account and bank routing number. I never do this and I pay all my bills on line. The only automatic payments I have however are for my car insurance and a gym membership but that is set up using my banks VISA debit card number and the transaction is put through as if it was a credit card and I do all my bill payments that way.
I had used my debit card at Target during the breach period and simply went to my bank and got a new debit card with a new number and 3 digit security code, got it issued on the spot. I had to go on line and update the account number for my insurance and gym membership auto payments but I didnt have to close my bank account.
