Well, you know what? The whole BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY affair vis a vis THE VERVE really turned me off to Jagger. Could be maybe I’m way off base, but it seems like the common understanding is that he just screwed them to the wall, “... and for what? A little bit of money.” to quote Frances McDormand.
So let him stew in his own juices.
Wow. I didn’t know that. That’s one of my all time favorite songs. Always suspected Jagger was a bit of a chav. I’m certain of it now.
It was really petty for the Rolling Stones to take songwriting credit and 100% of the royalties from The Verve just because they borrowed a bass line or a melody or whatever it was about the song deemed to be similar to "The Last Time".
These plagiarism suits are getting out of hand. There are only so many notes on the musical scale and eventually you are going to have to repeat some of them to come up with new material. "Bittersweet Symphony" is a totally different song. Just like George Harrison's "Sweet Lord" was totally different than The Chiffons "He's So Fine" yet the ex-Beatle lost that lawsuit as well.
And as it almost always the case, the "common understanding", mainly from people (like you?) who only know half of the story, at most, is WRONG WRONG WRONG.
Jagger and Richards had NOTHING to do with the whole Bittersweet Symphony controversy. NOTHING. Please do some research so your "common understanding" of the situation can be more accurate.
