I’m a pushover for those sequential turn signals too...

Me too and the hidden headlights were the "bomb". lol

I added spring hangers and cragar mags with the big tires in back. The cougar is a little more roomier than the mustang (though I think the '69 mustang is the prettiest car ever built). The unibody construction and well balanced cg, made it one of the better handling cars on the road. I could get from my dad's house to the university in 45 minutes. It would take me an hour and half today (It's an 85 mile trip, much of it over twisting country roads). :')

I'm a Subaru owner...

A very popular vehicle in Alaska when I was working up there a few years back.

“when you turn the key they start. In addition they get you from A to B and back”

My two primary criteria in an automobile.

Also, I want it to do those two things for a large number of years with little fuss other than gas, oil, lube, brake pads, tires every 50,000 miles and starter battery every 5 years.

Can’t beat Hondas and Toyotas for those criteria.

Yea!My wife has owned Four Subarus and except for one that was totaled in an MVA which she was struck from behind and sent end over end on an interstate highway and survived with incredibly minor injuries.

The other three lasted for 10 years each. They’re very durable, fast cars.

By the way that new Subaru commercial is right on the money. My wife did survive.

Engineers run the show at Fuji Heavy Industries, parent of Subaru, and it shows. One of the few “affordable” vehicles with that level of engineering.

I get a kick out of the name and the logo too, those stars are the Plieades. “Subaru” is the Japanese word for it. Cosmic, man, lol.

Too right. I love the cars - on my second - but I gotta admit, only the Japanese would try selling a car whose name pronounced in English is “Wrecks”.

... and in the hands of a boy-racer playing Fast & Furious they all too often are. What a blast getting there, though.

I can tell you as an auto technician that most Automobiles don’t see very many problems at all until after 80,000 miles.

Take a prospective car to an independent shop, and have a buyer inspection done. (don’t go to a competing dealer)
If they won’t even let you do this at your own expense, walk away.

Buy cash and make payments to yourself to go for your next car.
Why pay interest? You end up spending literally twice as much! (that interest could go back to you!)
Listen to your old man, do you have to learn everything the hard way!
I sure wish I had listened to my Dad.

Don’t buy a luxury European car. (unless he has tons of money to burn)

All cars on the road today are used cars.
Buying a car with 25k on it is still like brand new.

Use that little section in the owners manual about scheduled maintenance...it really does matter.

I actually still have it. I kick myself for not taking better care of it and not restoring it. I drove it until it burned a valve somewhere well past 100,000 miles. I pulled both heads and gave them to my dad to rework sometime around 1980. He never got to it them and they’re both sitting in the back of his pickup underneath his shed. He passed away in ‘09. Marriage, babies, work, other interests took precedence. It and the times I had in it are mostly just fond memories now. :-)

I vote restoration just went on your ‘to do’ list (someday anyway). That’s a major piece of history in your life now. And your dad would probably have loved it if you brought it back. Even partially. (Dad’s are that way. And I’m so sorry for your dad’s passing Errant. I know its been a few years, but it’s never the same without him.)

I know its been a few years, but it’s never the same without him.

I don't think there has been a day in the past 5 years that I haven't thought of him. I regret not spending more time with him even though we had many great adventures together. He was the best dad a kid could have ever been lucky enough to have had.

A few months before he died, they called me out of a meeting to talk to an ER doctor on the phone (Dad was in the hospital for another bout of pneumonia and now asphyxiating and there was a DNR in his records). The doc asked me what I wanted to do (insert an airway or not). I asked the doc about his chances, he said good and I told him to put in the airway.

My dad recovered. He told us about a dark place he had visions of and of demons chasing him. He was very frightened when a face appeared (the face of our Lord) saying he was going to save him. It wasn't long after that, that he, in his 70s, accepted Christ into his life for the first time and was baptized. It was one of the happiest days in my life, but sadly followed a few months later with his peaceful passing in his sleep.

Several very unusual events occurred during and shortly after the funeral that I will always believe were more than coincidental. I saw my dad's hand in at least two of these events. A third had to be the work of the Holy Spirit - no other explanation for it.

I pray the Almighty blesses you for your kind and caring words and your good deeds. The world needs more people in it like you! :-)

You should not expect to get the wholesale price (per black book auction rates for your area) as the dealer has to make some money too. But you can get close if you know where to negotiate from.

There are many dealers who, if you know exactly what you want, will look for it at the local auction. They'll charge you their cost plus a modest finders fee. A local dealer near me only charges $500.

This is a pretty reasonable deal. I expect you have to go to the auction with him and cut the check as well. In some cases, if you are not too choosy about the car, you can get some steals this way too (below wholesale).
