I know that there are two “Update 3’s”
I just copied & pasted the info.
************************************************

Lack of sponsorship could shut down Swan Racing UPDATE3:

Swan Racing [#26-Cole Whitt & #30-Parker Kligerman] issued the following statement Thursday afternoon: “Swan Racing is in the process of reviewing its current situation and the ability to continue to compete in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The team has been unable to secure the kind of sponsorship required to effectively operate the team. As a result, the team management is exploring every available option. We hope to be in position to provide a detailed update in the near future.”(Swan Racing)(4-17-2014)

UPDATE:

Team spokesperson Ramsey Poston told Motorsport.com that Swan is assessing its current situation. Other sources familiar with the situation said it’s unlikely that Swan will field more than one car — if any — for the Apr. 25-26 NASCAR events at Richmond International Raceway.(Motorsport)

UPDATE2:

The Swan Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team released a number of employees today [Thursday] and may not compete in the circuit’s next race at Richmond International Raceway On April 26. Team employees were reportedly informed today that the team is suspending operations, and many of them are already seeking employment with other teams. Sources say there is a possibility that Whitt’s #26 Toyota could be absorbed into the existing BK Racing operation, if Swan Racing is unable to continue.(Godfather Motorsports)

UPDATE3:

Swan Racing co-owner Anthony Marlowe tweeted on Thursday afternoon: “My mission is to ensure @ColeWhitt races in every #NASCAR Sprint Cup event this season.”(4-18-2014)

NASCAR birthplace Streamline hotel sold and to be renovated:

The Streamline Hotel, the 1940s-era beachside inn known as the birthplace of NASCAR, has sold, and the new owner plans to renovate the property. Eddie Hennessy, son of cosmetic company Pevonia International founders Phillippe and Sylvie Hennessy, bought the property at 140 S. Atlantic Ave. late last month for $950,000. He intends to restore the art deco building and turn the hotel into an upscale South Beach-style boutique inn. "My goal is to clean up the hotel, the block, the drug stuff going around," Hennessy said. "We're bringing the hotel back to its original state, only more modern." Since buying the hotel, Hennessy has installed new management and has started some work on the facelift. He said he doesn't yet know when the major renovation work will begin, but added he looks to get started "as soon as possible." Hennessy said he plans to start the restoration with the hotel's rooftop bar, which is where in 1947 Bill France Sr. met with race drivers and track owners to form NASCAR. The hotel has a second bar on the ground floor that Hennessy said he intends to turn into a NASCAR-themed lounge. The Streamline will stay open while renovation work is done, Hennessy said. After renovating the rooftop bar, Hennessy will start work on the lobby, the hotel's ground-level bar, then the guest rooms. He said he isn't yet sure how much he will invest in the hotel's renovation.(Daytona Beach News Journal)(4-18-2014)

Keselowski recalls how Rick Hendrick left him heartbroken:

In a just-released video interview, #2-Brad Keselowski [2012 Sprint Cup Champion] - looking perhaps as somber as we've ever seen him, at times seemingly ready to break into tears - discusses how heartbroken, if not potentially betrayed he felt in 2009 when team owner Rick Hendrick picked Mark Martin to drive the #5 Chevrolet instead of giving Keselowski the opportunity, even though Bad Brad insists Hendrick had previously promised him that ride in 2010. Appearing on the syndicated "In Depth With Graham Bensinger," Keselowski also talks prominently about how Roger Penske approached him back in 2008, inquiring if the young talent would be interested in joining Team Penske. Jack Roush discusses possible engine changes:

With NASCAR officials focusing on engine changes in the Sprint Cup Series for 2015 that will result in a reduction of horsepower, such a move should involve “a restriction on the intake side,” according to Sprint Cup Series team co-owner [#16, #17, #99] Jack Roush. Roush, an owner in the series since 1988, isn’t suggesting the use of restrictor plates similar to those used at Daytona and Talladega. Instead, he said, a reduction of the throttle bore size “without a plate underneath” would accomplish the objective. “(It is) straightforward and it is easily reversible if you decided that the quality of the racing was hurt by it,” Roush said. “If they want to take 100 horsepower off ... reduce horsepower significantly, the least expensive and most palatable way to do that is with a restriction on the intake side.” Today’s Cup engines, limited to 358 cubic inches, produce approximately 850 horsepower. Speeds have increased, in part due to a new rules package and the continued development of the Generation-6 car, now in its second year. While officials with the three auto manufacturers currently involved at the series’ top level, Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota, have been a part of the discussions, they say it is too early in the process to respond to potential engine changes. “From an owner’s standpoint, NASCAR has got to be mindful of ... what it costs,” Roush said. “The race teams can only afford to change so many things at a time. With the expanding technology and the engineering costs that everybody has with the pressure for sponsorship and investment in the sport, a dramatic or unnecessary engine change would not be welcome in my world.”(see full article at NASCAR.com)(4-20-2014)

Hendrick pit coach is leaving for a job outside of racing:

One of the best pit coaches in NASCAR is leaving racing for work outside of the sport. As of Darlington two weeks ago, Hendrick Motor Sports pit coach Lance Munksgard will no longer be at HMS. Munksgard will be taking a new job in McGregor, Texas at Fourseventy Claim Management. Pit Talks talked with Coach Munksgard, he had this to say. “I was blessed to have been able to live a dream of working with the best mechanics and pit crew members in NASCAR over the years which was an unforgettable experience. I couldn’t have asked for a better organization than HMS to finish my NASCAR career. HMS is a truly professional company that starts from Mr. Hendrick down through the management, crew chiefs, and through the pit crews. It was a true pleasure to work with a strong coaching staff and pit crew members at HMS and watch them progress each week. I will truly miss the competition on pit road each week and wish all the guys on pit road the best of luck.”(Pit Talks)(4-21-2014)

LOL!

Now, picture that in lime green, minus the flames, the 2.0L motor with a 650 Holly to feed it, Me @ 16 and getting rear ended 3 doors down from home- and it didn’t explode!

Only because My tool box was in between the back and the spare tire and it kept the thing from crushing the gas tank.

Had to let the air out of the spare to get the tool box out.

Broke the back glass. I had access to scrap Plexiglass and cut and bolted in a 1/2” thick piece for the window.

Then had the “bright idea” to test it with a sledgehammer, it bounce right back off and just missed my forehead.

God watches over the stupid for sure.

LOL... lucky boy indeed!!!

question, a 2.0L turning at 7000RPM can only move ~247CFM of air, with a 650CFM mouthpiece, what did it run like? were there flames coming out of the exhaust???

I never said that I built that combo;)

I bought that POS for the basic engine to put in a Cortina MKII with a Fiat 5 speed because they both had a 200mm/8” clutch assy. that way I could use the flywheel & pressure plate from the 2.0 and the clutch disk from the Fiat. The Cortina and Fiat both had Hydraulic Clutch so just use the Master Cyl in the Cortina and the slave from the Fiat. The Fiat and Cortina both used the same U-Joint so that made the drive line simple. And by shaving 1/4” off of each side of the block at the motor mount surface I could bolt the Cortina motor mounts on it and it would bolt right in the subframe.

The guy I got the Pinto from wasn’t the “brightest of bulbs”, He figured that punching the 2.0 out to .030 over on the cylinders would “make it work”. He just bolted on the carb out of the box and made no jetting changes. It ran so rich that he went 3 heat ranges hotter on the plugs just so it would run.

I rejetted and changed the plugs- it ran sooo much better.

I planned on major Port & Polish w/oversized valves and utilizing the 4BBL intake to bolt a Turbo on and have a set of 2 45 DCOE Webers on the suction side of the Turbo.

Hooking to the ground was 13 x 8 Mags w/Goodrich T/A’s. Koni adjustable shocks.

Dang near when I got it.

We used A Cortina Estate (wagon) for deliveries at the parts store, took the Passenger front seat out and folded down the back seat so we could haul exhaust systems in it.

No A/C working in it so it was HOT in the Texas summer.

At one time our “clan” owned 13 different ones from MKI & MKII to the wagon including a couple of R/H drive ones. Never paid over $100.00 for them running or not. Had one that had a Formula Ford motor in it- that motor would have never passed Race Tech (cough, cough), turned that motor 8500 rpm all the time. Used to piss off the guys in the Camero & Firebird's on racing off the line. Would take them to about 100 mph or so then they got top end speed. We never lost off the line.
