Of course they could. They could have waited until the fire burned itself out, too. Meanwhile, someone trapped inside might die. What’s more important? A car belonging to someone who doesn’t care about human life and is breaking the law, or a helpless victim waiting inside a burning home?
They chose well, but didn't have a completely straight flow.
Houses in Boston can go up quickly (as seen in the recent Back Bay Fire :-( ).
The soft suction hose is about than 15' long and is usually 4" to 6" diameter. If you see a traditional fire hydrant the two side ports are for 2 1/2" hose which comes in 50" lengths.
Did you miss this in the article:
“It appears to be an act of retaliation at first, but firefighters say the fire hose must be as straight as possible to maintain water pressure.”
Does the hose in that picture look like it is as straight as possible???
400 muscular firemen on the scene and trucks full of equipment used to move things and they couldn’t move that car out of the way so that they had a straight firehose from the hydrant???
As the old saying goes — don’t pee on my foot and tell me you’re a fireman.
In a crisis situation, people make the decisions that they believe are right. Having a policy in place helps those who are in those situations to make quick responses that save lives, while they are risking their own. God bless these brave men.
Were you one of the artsy-fartsy students at MFA Art School?
I lived on the corner of Commonwealth & Dartmouth. Parked in a metered spot on Commonwealth, near Dartmouth. Forgot about the time, to run out to feed the meter. Rushed out anyway...looked down the block....and ALL the cars had been towed. My heart sunk.....way down the block, the last 2 parking spots at the corner of Exeter was my car and another out-of-state car [w/ Colorado plates] ...somehow, by the grace of God, we were spared. The tow company showed some class and let the *tourists* off the hook. PHEW!
You are getting grouchy in your old age.
