INDIANAPOLIS - A Fishers Police K-9 was fatally shot Wednesday after it latched onto an off-duty officer's arm and would not let go.
Officials said Officer Tracy Saxhaug was caring for the K-9, named Arrack, at her Hamilton County home Wednesday afternoon when a car pulled into the driveway, sending the dog into a "defensive stance."
Police said the K-9 bit Saxhaug's arm and would not release her, so the officer's family member called for help.
A Hamilton County Sheriff's Department deputy also could not get Arrack to release Saxhaug's arm, and the decision was made to shoot the dog.

Did they search her for drugs afterwards?
That’s like shooting a police officer, right? Will the deputy be punished? Or is the department just relieved that she was able to go home to her family?
Dogs are good at judging character. I would check the cops background.
Of course, had a civilian shot the dog in self-defense after it latched onto their person, they would be charged and punished severely.
A dog will do what you train it to do. They want to do what you want them to do. This seems an error in training or overreaction.
Have there ever been reports of Tasering a dog, or do they always just shoot them? Sounds like both the dog and the cop were trained to redline as step 1.
They teach these dogs to only react to commands in a foreign language. No one knew what to say to the dog.
That said, the dog was poorly trained to react in the way he did.
Good grief!!
if this was a citizens dog it would have been shot for far, far less. like barking at a cop from a gated yard.
Now they are shooting THEIR OWN DOGS!!!
Why didn’t they pepper spray or taser or jump into a pool or push a cat in its face?
Cops have zero IQ nowadays, as TPTB just want obedient goons to enforce compliance.
Pathetic.
Water hose?
Pepper spray?
Poorly trained cops and dog.
Sad for dog .
IMHO, dogs should be used against humans only in the most extreme and necessary circumstances.
Once you train a dog to bite humans you can not trust them no matter how well trained you think they are.
Put pressure on the dogs eyeballs and they will release their bite. I’ll bet money on that.
Seems to be the same school for dogs and cops ... wrong house, wrong guy .. someone dies.
Arrack could only respond to commands in another language?
Good grief, it must have been Oriental! and when they said the dogs name, it thought “attack.”
Oh, wait, that would have been “allack.” Nevermind.
Gone of common sense.. Why can’t you just hit the dog on the head with a pan or anything solid? You don’t have to kill a dog. That is what I call over kill.
I’m not sure I buy this story...
It sure seems to lack details and specifics...A car pulled up? Who was in the car? Why would that set off a trained dog?
Saxhaug was not Arrack’s regular handler, but was just caring for him temporarily??
I could be wrong, but I’d bet the rent there is more to this story...
