I love my country, but a sizable portion of its residents I really have no respect for.

I absolutely understand. The question is how much of the societal decay we are seeing is spontaneous, how much has been fostered by corrupt or feckless politicians, and how much is attributable to those whose long-term goal has been to weaken the US.
