Your Favorite Biblical Movie?

Posted on 04/18/2014 8:41:31 PM PDT by MNDude

There are lots of Biblical Movies coming out this year (Son of God, Noah), but I don't think many compare to some of the older ones (like Ten Commandments, Passion of the Christ).

What is your favorite Biblical movie?

Jesus of Nazareth...amongst an amazing cast - Robert Powell’s depiction was divine.

That one will have to be private Freepmail.

Man. Freepers are old. I had to come out of retirement to post "The Passion of the Christ" after 64 posts and not one mention.

Passion is simply the finest Biblical movie ever made. Nothing close. No Hollywood sham. No overacted, "MOSES, MOSES, MOSES." or Edward G. Robinson's Aaron, "Bring me the slave girl, see."

Mel Gibson did an amazing job. Probably his best work and he has some great work.

Agree 100%!!!!!

Jesus of Nazareth has the most stunning Crucifixion scene; the “elders” remark that Jesus is TEACHING from the cross when He says “My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me? ( Jesus is teaching, even from the cross, from Psalms 22—which fortold of the Crucifixion 1,000 earlier down to the details of the soldiers gambling at the foot of the cross for his robe.)

Besides being visually stunning, I don’t remember another Bible film making a point of the “elders” pointing out the fact that Jesus was teaching even while on the cross.

When I was a kid, the ‘Eloi, Eloi, lama sabbach thani’ made me think, “Wow, he really didn’t see this coming.”
When the time he spent earlier this evening made it seem so real and him seem so human: “I really don’t want to do this thing, not sure what exactly what it is, but it can’t be good, they’re itching to get at me, so if You can give me a pass ...” But no answer. His own Son. So God let Abraham off the hook, but not Himself.
He had to impress us? Himself? How were we to blame for that horrible day? Because of an earlier disagreement over fruit trees?
I don’t think any of them saw it coming, and looking back, it doesn’t, none of it makes much sense. But Hollywood always sorts things out, so yeah, The Robe.

Not a Bible story, but I love “Song of Bernadette” made in 1943 with Jennifer Jones. I am not a Catholic, but that movie thrilled me so much I nearly converted to Catholicism. She got the Oscar for her role and deserved it. Every time I get the chance I see it again and it just gives me goose bumps.

Also one of my favorites. Inaccurate in places, but reverent of the power of God manifested in Jesus. I am overwhelmed by the resurrection of Lazarus every time.

I agree. One Easter Sunday my son , his wife, and I watched Passion of the Christ. You could have heard a pin drop in the room we were so transfixed on the film. At the end of the movie we just sat there with tears streaming down our faces. No other movie has ever done that.
