I think people just don’t see marriage as necessary anymore. Countries that made same-sex civil unions legal in the 90s, saw that straight people declined to get married in large numbers.
Well personally I think marriage has been so cheapened by all the freak shows (people wanting to marry same sex or their dog, tree, moon or a corpse) that I guess it seems pointless. Freak/Kink is the new normal.

Shack-ups and random sex have been happening exponentially since the pill then abortion. Illegitimacy has skyrocketed despite “birth control”. What is really needed is sex control. My theory is homos took advantage of free-wheeling whoring by the populace at large to get sympathy. When sex is vitally overemphasized as all-important, it also becomes trivial and thus any kind of sex is OK.
Only ones who want to get married are the gays!
