It has to do with the villainization of the male characters in those books, and the vilification of activities boys enjoy, or have yet to enjoy. BTW, I’d be getting ready for the next round of Lets Censor Videogames — this article wouldn’t be published if it weren’t the back entrance to that very meme. Thanks Olog-hai.

The moment they do openly censor is the moment every game company offshores to China and Japan/Korea. And it will spell disaster politically for the fools that go Tipper PMRC Gore with this.

OR they will adopt the Skyrim/Fallout model and make their games ‘user moddable’. The skyrim on my computer is nothing like what Bethesda released. And I assure you that mods would quickly uncensor whatever dipstickery the govt censored. Just as it did in Germany and other countries. User moddability becomes the selling point. You still need the basic game.

Reading good books are foundational to exercising critical thought and imagination, to be sure. I enjoy playing select situational, interactive games as an adjunct to reading. It’s a hnads on form of extra-dimensional reading to me and gives me the option to take a story in a multitude of directions.

Every teen aged boy should read the Prince Roger series by Webber/Ringo

I hear what you are saying, Norm. I’ve heard the “far right” say that video games should be banned.. they introduce children to violence, blah, blah, blah. Personally, I think the same people will try to ban games like “cowboys and Indians” (racist and violent) or toy soldier games. Heck.. even Battleship (the game) lets the winner sink a battleship. My son was always into history, world and American. I allowed him (much to the chagrin of some family members and later the elementary school) to watch the History Channel. You can’t guard your kids from violence.. it has always existed and always will. Boys play rough. They like the idea of battle. They enjoy the idea of group A pitted against group B so there is a winner.

I’m not one to sugar coat life to my kids. Heck.. even the bible stories contain violence. It is something that IMHO they need to know exists. Hugs, Mom

” personally like my heroes to just whip ass and that’s that. At the end of the day it’s a fantasy. From my point of view, action is how men express romance on film. Whether it be romance for family, wives, children, king, country, it doesn’t matter. They express their love by whipping ass in the name of one or the other of the above.” - Kurt Wimmer, director of _Equilibrium_

It’ll be difficult at best to censor d/l’able saved user profiles and games. I’m not saying that they won’t push for it, regardless — it’s not about accomplishing anything, it’s about gaining more power.

For some time now I have fully believed that 1984 and Brave New World were used by leftists and the unthinking as how to manuals. I believe life imitates art moreso as we breed out of ourselves the ability to think critically about our actions and their logical conclusions. Thus the Idiocracy we find ourselves in today.

If someone can show me the functional difference behind the mentality that leads to the acceptance of Global Warming and the mentality behind Brawndo helping plants grow because it has electrolytes, I want to see it. They are one and the same. Sheepish follow the idiot mentality with no thought, just reaction.

But the more I think about it, the more I see us following a parallel track to Stallone/Snipes’ “Demolition Man. Specifically the bit where cop is standing there confronting Snipes asking dispatch for instructions on what to do when he refuses compliance.

If one follows the track our young boys are being forced down, that scene is our future. Their liberal Utopia is so utterly castrated, they are clueless how to deal with even a verbal confrontation.

I do not see all other cultures wrapped up in this suicide pact. And while we do our best to pussify ourselves in every aspect of modern American existence, others are becoming strong. And eventually we will become either ‘extinct’ or ‘enslaved’ because of it.

If the story sucks, the game sucks. and no big booms will save it.

As for strong female protagonists.

In the Game Fallout: New Vegas. You can make your character any gender you want. I went for a female. Totally willing and New Vegas is the Best Game I have played in the past Five Years.

But I made that CHOICE.

I didn't have some Mom Organization petitioning Bethesda to include strong Female character . I just made my own.

Ditto with young boys. Let them make their own adventure without being emasculated by a culture that demonizes them.

“But I made that CHOICE.”

You sure it was a choice? I mean ... You know...Isn’t the ‘current truth’ supposed to be that your character was....wait for it...

... born that way?

BWAAAA!!!! HAHAHAH!!!

Ahem....sorry. Couldn’t resist. BTW, on the PC there’s a mod for that. Get it? “A -mod- for that’? I kill me...You probably want to kill me too. ;)
