Mrs. Rightsmart works with young adults like Sheldon. She says this show portrays the character perfectly. She has even used clips of the show to show her students how not to behave in social situations.

It’s pretty clear that Sheldon is on the Autism spectrum / Asperger’s.

When Sheldon blurts or makes what looks like an intentional insult, I say to my wife, "Why the heck do people let him get away with that?"

She simply says, "It's in the script dear. And if they admonished or reprimanded him, that wouldn't be funny. It is a situation COMEDY after all."

Point taken but...sheesh!
