A new Gallup poll has revealed that 1 in 3 adults in the United States have not visited the dentist within the past year—a trend that has stayed mostly the same since 2008.
The survey is based on information gathered from interviews with more than 530,000 Americans aged 18 and older. Women were much more likely to have visited the dentist annually than men; among ethnic groups, 55 percent of blacks and Hispanics recalled visiting the dentist in the past year, compared to 70 percent of whites and Asians.
The biggest predictor of visiting the dentist was income. Individuals who made more than $120,000 a year were twice as likely to have visited the dentist than those who earn less than $12,000 a year. …

Who can afford to? Even as a veteran I don’t receive dental care.
I’m trying to figure out how dentists stay in business what with so many at large not able to afford their services.
I don’t go anymore, but I do try to take good care of my tooth.
I have not seen my dentist in a little over one year. Received a letter from his office asking where to send my records! In all of my life I have never received such a letter. Very strange. I am also getting repeated demands from healthcare providers that I go in for various tests. Screw them all. This is the new world where they demand and you jump through the hoops. Sorry, I am the one in charge of my health and my needs.
A few weeks ago I got my teeth cleaned and my hygenist says her repeat customers are down 50%.
Instead of going twice a year folks are going every year or two she says.

I hope we are using better toothpaste to control tartar build up. But it is a bad idea to wait for a tooth ache.
Way too expensive. If you have the insurance, the deductibles are very, very high.

I asked my dentist a couple of years ago if ObamaCare would impact them (as they are doctors); he had no idea. There are certainly a lot less people in the dentist’s office when I go...

I don’t go. After years of diligent dental care, including religiously frequent office visits and at home dental hygiene, it seems my gums are going bad anyway. Why bother if I’ll probably lose my teeth eventually anyway?
Went to a new dentist and couldn’t believe it when a few months later I started to get notices for my six-month cleaning and checkup that their system automatically schedules.
I went to an initial visit. X-rays, cancer screening, looking at each tooth and giving me some number 1-2-3-2-1-2 etc (have no idea what that was about) and the bill was 569 dollars. I will only have to pay 57 dollars, but still. How ridiculous. I will have the cleaning done on May 20th....only knows how much that will cost.
Those are good numbers. The lower the better. What you don't want to hear is 5-6-7-8..

Something to do with bone loss. Which never made sense to me as you would think once you have lost bone there is no going back. But with increased care (flossing 2 x a day helps) those numbers do get better.
Thankfully I did not hear those numbers.
To a point. I have some bone loss around a back molar. At one point it was at a 7. I have been able to keep it around 5 for quite some time. Takes a bit of work. Besides flossing, I use soft picks and go betweens..
