Kennedy neither said nor meant ask what you can do for your government.

“My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man. “
That's Socialism. We're not here to "serve our country" (except in time of war).
We're here to live out our free lives as we see fit. That's a free society.
