This “kid” is a special needs kid. Yes they sometimes to this. Is why I asked where his aide was. My best friend has to have an aide for her high school son because he has trisomy 21 and can’t to from class to class without one. Some special needs kids, even in high school have to have diapers changed. This kid being in a wheel chair more than likely is one of those kids. Either that or an aide has to take him to the bathroom.
I know there is more to this story and more will develop.
We’ll see.
If it turns out the kid is all there, throw the book at him or everyone is going to think it’s open season on adults in authority.
“If it turns out the kid is all there,”
All there? Dude! The kid has cerebal palsy he has not been “all there” since birth!
Actually, a quick check says that the mind is only affected in roughly 1/3 of the cases. That means in roughly 2/3, the person should theoretically be accountable, at least enough to understand “Hitting is bad, and may result in others hitting back.”.
A wheelchair or a movement disorder aren’t automatic indicators of a lack of intellect or understanding.
Obviously, you know nothing about cerebral palsy.
The child is not a paraplegic. He has motor skills deficits (pretty obvious, since he is in a wheelchair) due to brain damage (hence the "cerebral" part of cerebral palsy). All motor skills will be effected, including speech.
Depending on the individual, this student may be unable to speak at all, or able to speak but be difficult to understand.
Irrelevant. Hitting an adult in authority who isn’t trying to commit a crime on you is absolutely never correct.
Even if he can’t speak, slapping and spitting wasn’t the correct solution and if he’s capable of being held accountable, should be.
You’re making my view a lot more complicated than it actually is.
I don’t care in the slightest about reasons...if you’re a kid who has enough mentality to know hitting is bad, and you hit an adult for any reason other than self defense, there needs to be punishment enough to remind you why you chose poorly.
Dear God, did you watch the video? The school security moron clobbered the kid three times and then dumped him on the floor. The kid had to be sent to the hospital, and you’re fine with that?
Nah, wouldn’t load and I didn’t feel like messing with it further. I suppose I’m not ok with the hospital, but I’m still not at all happy at just how fearless and disobedient children are these days.
