You're right. These massacres are occurring at an alarming rate. Something is making people go off like that. If we could find and treat the underlying causes, we might not have so much carnage.

For all the science and technology out there, the brain is still poorly understood. Far too many illnesses are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. What treatments exist are often inappropriate and ineffective. And the severely deranged are allowed to walk among us thanks to do-gooders who are too worried about the rights of the mentally ill to even consider the threat to the safety of the rest of us.

Unfortunately, thanks to Obamacare, any further research and development of solutions will be stifled. This is what happens under government-run health care. The resources and incentives to find cures or effective treatment of any illness are lost. Way to go Obama.

Mental health will never prevent murders.

In fact advocating for mental health in these cases is a very slippery slope.

It could lead to:

Your Obamacare doctor says you are mentally ill - no guns for you.

You subscribe to lists like this - uou are mentally ill - no guns for you.

That's easy. Start teaching God's laws in school.

They are being hyped at an alarming rate by 24-7 exploitation media (which seems to savor a certain amount of chaos and mayhem).

There was another SUV rampage killing in the same community 13 years ago. Have to wonder if that was an influence on the killer's activities (he was already getting counseling).

There have been vicious killers (and not just Charles Whitman in the UT tower in the mid-60s or Richard Speck in the nurses' dormitory...) rampaging for some time.

The media today glamorizes some of it. The Japanese movie Battle Royale predates Hunger Games by over a decade but was "too controversial" for mainstream release in America. Now it is sold as an under-R movie franchise. Teens still hunting teens.

Time was sadistic violence films played drive-ins and adult only grindhouse theaters. Now big studios make such films (and they air on cable television).
