...I bought it with the money from my first job, and was almost dizzy after putting that much money on anything.

The transmisson was worn so I had to learn to double-clutch, which is actually easy once you've cracked it.

The window gaskets leaked so in a heavy rain water would collect in the floorboard, you woulsn't know until you hit the brakes and it woul rush foward. So I drilled some holes in the back floor to let it out.

What was your firsdt car ?

1976 blue Pontiac Ventura. Four door. It was my moms. Eventually it died and was replaced by a two door candy apple red 84 Datsun.

‘59 VW Beetle. The running boards were rusted-out. Didn’t have the sun roof, unfortunately. If you remove the innards from the tailpipe exhaust tips, it makes the engine sound pretty cool.

BelAire by Old 97’s

My first car was a ‘68 Toyota Corolla, about 15 years old.

It didn’t last long. Brakes went out on a mountain road. Had to stop and fill the radiator on certain hills. It was a piece of junk. I didn’t care much and didn’t think about or worry I was ripped off. I had better things to do. I gave it to a friend finally when it broke down. He and hs Dad towed it away and fixed it.

Back then Datsun was better than Toyota.

First car I drove regularly was a ‘73 Pontiac Grand Safari wagon. That was a great car with a huge engine and incredible turning radius.

GM cars were the best ever until the late 70’s/80’s.

Now I wouldn’t buy an American car unless it was free. Toyota now makes the best cars.

‘63 Ford Econoline, 163 cid 6, 3 on the tree, funky faded red rattletrap. Had the engine cover between the seats so she sat 3. If you missed the garbage can, your empty [beer] can would eventually find its way to one of the rusted-through rear corners and fell out. Hey, at least bottles were verboten!

It was a ‘73 Toyota Corolla with so much metal fatigue that if I went above 55 on the freeway with the windows down the roof became concave and hit whoever rode in the passenger seat on the head.

That was one worn out clunker.

71 Camaro RS 350. Silver over black interior. First Camaro with 4 wheel disc brakes. Also had a turbo 400 trans.

Been seeing a lot of them in recent movies featuring that era.

'67 Dodge Dart, former police car. Drove it into the ground: when we replaced it in '77 with a Corolla, driving it the ten miles to the dealer in Philly's University City was probably the scariest drive I ever had, since the brakes and the transmission were both completely gone.

The Corolla lasted 7 years, the following Renault only 4 (bad choice), the Mazda 626 lasted 7, the Camry 12, and the present Mazda CX7, which was an '07 bought in '11, is still with us, eleven payments remaining.

1965 MGB roadster (w/hardtop too), bought in '73 from part time jobs in HS .. it was born for leaf-strewn, winding country roads on a crisp autumn day.
