you suggested you UPGRADED from XP to 8.1 on the same computer. You never said on two different machines. THAT’S a HUGE reason people wouldn’t want to go with 8.0 or 8.1 if they have a newer computer and it currently has XP on it. No one wants the hassle of having to spend a day or 2 (that’s if everything goes smooth without problms) re-installing/reconfiguring the OS and programs.
Just read the post, it would sure save time. I DIDN’T suggest that I installed a new operating system on a computer, I said that “I” went directly from XP to 8.1, and that I have no complaints.

I went straight from XP to 8.1 and have no complaints, I like it better.
