A fight broke out in a US court between a county judge and a public defender, and audio of the altercation was heard on courtroom video.
The Florida judge, John Murphy, at one point asked public defender David Weinstock if he wanted to go out and fight.
Mr Weinstock approached the bench and out of camera shot sounds of a fight ensued. Officials say the judge punched Mr Weinstock.
The verbal confrontation that led up to the physical altercation was captured on courtroom video.

The piece didn’t indicate who won?
Umm Brevard County. I was sort of fearful it was in our circuit. But it’s not.
The Law South of the Suwanee River.
No lawyer in his right mind ever embarrasses a judge. And this should lead to disbarment. What an idiot!
Not so funny.
Ridiculous these law men would act this way in a public proceeding. Judge should have demanded bailiff take him out.
And people there making light of it, including the jury. Sick.
We need some adults in this country.
Listen carefully to the judge when he returns......HE won....and he told the guy he would need another defender.
That attorney came looking for a fight.....well he got one!
All I heard were garbled words. What was the courtroom audience applauding?
We need more Cow Bells, it never hurts to have more Cow Bells.. yip.. :)
Now that I’ve watched this version......I realize they’ve edited it and you don’t get to hear the arrogance and sarcasm in the public defenders voice....
You also don’t hear the judge when he returns......He gives the plaintiff his right to a speedy trial.
They were appauding the judge!.....because they heard the whole incident as it unfolded.
Unfortunately, the BBC has edited important areas of the tape.
The judge was the one who started the fight.
Actually the Judge used “fighting words” and could be seen as committing verbal assault at that point.
The story claims that the judge (soon to be former judge if true) threw the first punch.
you hit the nail on the head, my friend.
more....dummy
Its all very clear on the utube video above.
The judge then proceeds to have the defendant make a decision relative to his case without legal representation. If defendant gets convicted I don’t see how he won’t get a mistrial on appeal.
The defender was an a$$ but the judge is out of line. Failure to control.
The normal path would be to declare defender in contempt and have him removed.
Was this a court room in my country, or the rag bag behind the Goodwill Store in Port au Prince, Haiti? The fashion police ought to give every man-jack of them 30 days on General Principles.
How did he embarrass the judge pray tell? The judge wanted him to waive his client’s right to a speedy trial, he had an obligation not to do so. The judge is supposed to be of judicial temperament. It is no skin off the judge’s nose if the PD doesn’t waive his client’s right to a speedy trial. The only thing I can see that the attorney ought to have done is to sit down when the court said to.
