I'm sure there's no intention of scaremongering here. And I realize that handing our lives over to technology is something we do on planes, in trains, and every time we attempt to express ourselves in public.

We are an oddly trusting species.

Somehow, though, there seems a certain joy in controlling one's own destiny behind a steering wheel. When there's no wheel at all, we're at the mercy of someone else's dream.

This may have disturbing consequences.

How does a Googlecar respond to bicyclists (who do not remain in the bike lane) and are unlikely to stop at stop signs or traffic lights?

Does the Googlecar go in “assessing” that a bicyclist is quite likely to ignore traffic laws? Or does it respond “after the violation” making an abrupt stop?

I’m all for self driving cars as long as there is no special deals limiting lawsuits for victims.

Hate to say it, but cats (and squirrels) are just lurking there to run out in the road and make you flip your car avoiding them. Don’t avoid them,
even if you’re a real human being behind the wheel. They’ll replenish themselves...

Trying to avoid any animal on the road at high speed is deadly.
Just brake the best you can and drive through it, not around it.

Hope kitty is doing ok now.

I ran over its head at 50 MPH. I'm pretty sure I killed it.

I’m a cat lover, but that was funny!

That’s my feeling, too. I don’t speed up to hit them (!), but if I hit them, it’s better them than me.
