American football started life as a variant of rugby, and rugby started life as a variation on English football, right?

Both association football and rugby retain that flowing style of play - what happened to American football?

I guess when Camp introduced the downs rule, that started the inevitable drive toward carving up the game into plays for yards.

I’m talking a less violent version of Celtic-Rangers.

That's Rangers/Celtic if you please. :P

Who did we play to win the World “Real” Football title?

Given the fields and/or equipment needed, baseball and American Football are relatively expensive sports to play. Plus they are a rule-bound, dictatorial, bureaucratic nightmares (talk about un-American!!!)

Plus, with American Football, over-specialization for specific talents (kickers, punters and long snappers? come on!) and/or body types eliminates many who are otherwise good athletes from being able to play beyond the middle school or non-’Friday Night Lights’ high school level.

Basketball, while accessible and inexpensive, tends toward a taller body style, which eliminates many as well.

Soccer, with inexpensive equipment/venue needs and simple rule structure allows most anyone the ability to play. Outside the keeper, specialization is limited down to nuances and individual preferences. Everyone has to be able to defend, everyone can play offense. Hence, even the poorest countries can train an 11 man starting squad that can beat the wealthiest countries.

Other than track and field, soccer is truly a world sport, deserved of the moniker...WORLD Champion.

Going head to head, on a level playing field, and winning against all odds, what can be more American than that?

I guess if you aren’t good nuff to catch it with your hands you can butt it with your head or feet, as long as you don’t get confused which is which.

The REAL sport with hands is rugby. Union or league.

Not the sissified American version. Gridiron is rugby for gay Americans.

Back to this here baseball game they are talking about, did they just say they had 3 runs in 4 hours? Man, that must have been one exciting as heck game!!! Prolly lots of hootin and hollerin and jumping up and down in their fat uniforms n all.

Back to this here football game they are talking about, did they just say they had 3 td’ss in 240 minutes? Man, that must have been one exciting as heck game!!! Prolly lots of hootin and hollerin and jumping up and down in their cute
pads n all.

How many quarters are in one of their games?

Answer: none. Because unlike US sports where it stops every damn minute, our sports are nonstop, with just 10-15m at HT.

That there rubgy sounds like what we played on the playground during recess in grade school. You know, no pads, no helmet, no grass, no HT, full on tackle. Our Mom’s used to get mad though when we would get a tooth knocked out.
