I am sorry, but I have had no experience with chippies, so I hope someone else has some good advice for you.
I am going to plant some lettuce close to a tree where it will get shade all afternoon, and the house will give shade from the morning sun.
Tried it last year in the summer and it worked. I used black seeded simpson lettuce which is supposed to be heat tolerant.
Going to my house tomorrow to check on house and plants. Large containers will be moved to north of Dallas and others moved based on space and condition of plants. No matter where I am, there will be a container garden.
Will report on condition of plants.
