"bragabonds"

Good word.

I saw my parents deal with that sort of thing when I was young. Someone would say, "Have you eaten at Le Chat Trieste? It's a divine little cafe in Lyons. It over looks the river and has heavenly coq au vin."

My mother would snort and say, "That old place? Oh, dear -- no one goes there any more. Not after Chef Henri left. He told me he was unhappy there, and I pointed him to a little place in Brest that needed a top chef. It doesn't have a name, but it's on a lovely shady lane on the eastside of Brest -- you know: the nice part that overlooks the harbor. And he doesn't cook the coq au vin anymore. He found it tiresome. But he does make a duck confit which is simply scrumptious."

All of this was totally fictional. But not too many people tried to do the status-seeking stories of travel with my mother a second time.

He’s being very silly. He just needs to take on a large project (like writing a book or remodeling his house) and work on that. He could get something worthwhile done with that time.

I agree totally with your earlier post. There’s an old saying, “Cast down your bucket where you are!” Local haunts that you know well, that sort of thing.

Yes, I am married, and like most husbands I am `old stick in the mud’ when it comes to travel. I was an Army brat & saw foreign countries before I joined the Army & saw a few more. When she wants to travel, we go ‘cause I know she enjoys traveling. Her happiness is paramount to me.

Very interesting earlier thread about `bragabounds’; those who regale us stay-at-homes with their travels. Ten years ago I was deployed as a reservist to Uzbekistan; I spoke Russian & toured the ancient city of Samarqand. After that most tourist travel is mox nix to me.

Not really interested in Machu Picchu or Mt. Everest.

I guess he’s never heard of hobbies. You don’t need a fortune to work in a garden at home.

He mentions he’s a writer. He can write freelance. He’s not very creative for a writer.

>:>You think that’s bad. I’m retired. You ever tried to take a day off when you’re retired. Technically, it can’t be done.<<

Sure you can. Don’t do something that you normally do every day like make the bed or bring in the mail.

Hubby and I are both retired with enough money to travel. We have become homebodies. We enjoy our home. Sometimes after about 5 or 6 days I will realize that neither one of us has left the house in that time. lol We also have a boat in a marina about 1 1/2 hours from here that I spend a lot of time on. I do the same thing there. Will stay a week and once I’m parked my car doesn’t leave the parking lot. Guess I am easily entertained. lol
