Genius Idea: New Dating Site For Braniacs
Daily Caller ^ | 06/25/2014 | Julia Dent

Mensa and Match.com have teamed up to create a new dating site for people whose IQ is in the 98th percentile.

On Mensa Match, brainiacs can find people to date with the same intelligence level, according to the Daily Mail. The site was inspired by a survey where 80 percent of American singles said dating people on the same intelligence level was “very important.” 89 percent also said they would like to be with someone “considerably better educated or more intellectual.”

“Why do we want a smart partner? Because intelligence is correlated with many benefits, including: higher income; sense of humor; creativity; social skills; coordination; and problem solving. These are sexy,” said chief scientific advisor for Match.com Dr. Helen Fisher.

“Money can buy a sexy evening on the town. People everywhere gravitate to smart lovers, because an intelligent partner comes with a host of sexy perks.”

If he was high function autistic he compensated well, I don’t recall ever hearing him say an inappropriate word.

Above average intelligence, say 130 or so I can understand, these are bright people who are still sufficiently anchored in the day to day to perceive the world as the world perceives them. Get much beyond 160 or so and “cerebral” is about the best you can do for an adjective. It’s the rare human being who has an extremely high IQ, is athletic, sociable to the point of a winning personality, sexually attractive, etc., the stereotype has a factual basis.

My son is a 169. He lives in his fraternity, is very sociable, and is the starting left tackle. He is rather good looking too, and that is not just my opinion.

I am a 165 and sociable as well ... much more so than my 134 husband who dreads and avoids most social functions. I did make high school varsity for field hockey and my hubby has never played a sport.

So while the stereotype might have some factual basis, it is not absolute.

I actually joined Mensa (umpty-odd years ago!) to meet smart men. I found that the majority were the geekiest of geeks but there were a few keepers, and because of the 2 to 1 ratio of men to women in Mensa, it was kind of like shooting fish in a barrel.

(Oh, and it worked! I met my Mr. Fauxvert at a Mensa party. I’ve held onto him for a couple of decades now. ;)

Mensa meat market.

How many Mensans does it take to screw in a light bulb?

None - they already have enough dim bulbs.

There are stereotypes about very smart people—they’re dull, they’re ugly, they dress badly, they’re socially awkward and sexually incompetent, they have no common sense, they’re boring, etc. etc. I had the great good fortune to work with some very gifted intellects, and while there were a few who conformed to the stereotypes, most of them did not. There were many who were funny, charming, handsome or beautiful, talented in several fields, athletic, or good value at a party.

I’m in that category, and I am a complete loser. I don’t know what they can get out of such a small, and not very appealing, group, quite frankly. Unless it is a pay site. And if it is a pay site, it costs significantly more money to join.

Their narrow focus, combined with indoctrination and arrogance, is the reason so many of them are leftists.

From an evolutionary perspective, the narrow focus lends itself to successful hunting, problem solving, and survival outside a tribe. Civilization has a limited but growing need for such loners because they can solve deep focus problems that high social IQ types cannot.

Big gov lovers are proportional to population density, not IQ. Many high IQ types get indoctrinated into leftism simply because universities and brainy employment tends to be in high population density cities rather than the hinterlands.

Years ago I got an invite to join Mensa. I met with them to find out more and found that I couldn’t breath in the atmosphere of “smug” that was there.

All good points. But what you’re describing is not stupidity as in a lack of intelligence. It’s stupidity as in a refusal to use ht intelligence you have.

Personally I think the second variety is far more dangerous. Stupid, as in unintelligent, people are only capable of doing limited damage to themselves and others. Stupid, as in unwilling to use their brains properly, people have the raw ability to do a lot of damage.

Obviously there are quite a few people who combine the two types.

I went to a high caliber engineering school. EVERYONE was qualified to get into Mensa but the only ones that bothered with it were the ones that felt the need to PROVE how smart they were. Incidentally it was not the really smart ones that joined.

So what is that person doing now?

Maybe he made a lot of money and realized he didn’t need to be nice to anybody?
