Those are lovely books - I have them all and reread them constantly. I so agree. However, I could not sit through a single episode of the BBC series based on the books. Herriot, Siegfried, and Tristan just didn't look like I imagined them to be. It was like watching impostors!

That always happens when a novel is turned into a show. By the time that show came around, there had already been a movie - with Anthony Hopkins as Siegfried, I think. The tv show is very good - if you can accept a much more dignified Siegfried - no outbursts. That's because the real Siegfried (Donald Sinclair) threatened to sue.

It was like watching impostors! Amen!! The TV series did not do the books justice. I own all of them and have read and re-read them since they came out years and years ago. The stories are endearing and to this day I remember many of them. THE best book for animals loves, IMO.
