And a minor correction.. You have successfully canned only when the jar has been on the shelf for a month, you feed it to a kid, and the kid lives. ;)

Didn’t do much in the garden today, got sidetracked at a furniture store and picked out some new things for the den & living room ... by the time we were back home, it was too hot to do much at all. I have to pick most of the radishes tomorrow, as they are really crowding each other out (didn’t thin them, the seeds are so small they just clumped up — I am going to try the do-it-yourself seed tape for the 2nd planting of radishes and lettuce). Checked my quince today and noticed that some of the fruit has a weird, bright orange fuzz on them — looks like it’s ‘rust’ so I will be dealing with that tomorrow too, if I want to make quince jam again.
Marcella — your descriptions of the backyard sound great, I would love to see some pics. when you have a chance to post them.
mom3boys — your canned tomatoes look beautiful, I can almost taste the freshness!
Ellendra — what you’ve written is very scary, I think you should get out any way possible, prayers up.

I don’t think that any of the sunflower seeds that we planted have sprouted yet. I’ll have to remember to go out and check. That’s a nice one that you have there. Will you be planting those seeds next year?

As I said the variety is Seascape and was developed for the cool coastal areas of the Pacific North West. PS… the last photo is the run of the mill picking...
Wow, strawberries come in during May here. Nice looking berries. Do you find that the larger varieties are somewhat lacking in flavor?

I only tried strawberries once, when we lived in NJ, but they were so disappointing. Low yield, and those we did collect were small & tasteless.
We are now in PA, near Philly, so Seascape may not be the best for this area (cold long Winter, short Spring, quickly hot Summer the past few years) ...but those truly are beautiful!
I think your Dad sprayed the weed killer on yours before the bills had time to get pollinated.
All joking aside, I agree with twyn1, you need to get the heck out of there. How old is your Dad? This sounds like his behavior is more than just dementia type stuff..

We drove back from Ft Worth back to West Houston, recently, and were so surprised to see acres and acres of HUGE sunflower crops all along 35W (near Jonesboro). They were gorgeous!
Folks were stopping by the roadside, to take family pictures...reminded me of the bluebonnet pics I always see families taking.
Thanks. I’ve reads of their troubles there, but I thought they had placed equipment to take care of the problem, and production was restored. I guess I will know tomorrow when I’m at the store.
My wife picked a few ripe cayenne peppers today for a pepper sauce I am going to make tomorrow.

My Walmart here always has it by the Asian Foods. I think they also have some other new product from Hung Foy, but I forget what it is..I looked at it last week.
Oops, Huy Fong, not Hung Foy..Anyway, I think the new product my Walmart carris now was Chili Garlic in a jar.
