I don’t lie to my doctor!

The VA has been asking about firearms the last several yearsI think that started when there was a huge upsurge in veteran suicides, many unexpected by those around the person.

It’s good to hear that they didn’t ask about guns. Thanks.

My doctor asked this and I answered no even though I had a (legally carried) gun in my pocket. It’s none of their business. Seriously, anybody who answered yes would be asking for no end of scrutiny and hassle. The thing is, when they supply your credit card info any ammo purchases or gun cleaning supplies will flag you instantly.

A good patient is just as important as a good doctor. Maybe more so.

Remember, there is no such thing as private information between you and your doctor. If it’s in the chart, then fedgov knows.

Also, make sure you read the fine print. I don’t know for a fact that this applies to health care, but many forms have criminal penalties for any falsehoods you put down.

Criminal? How can that be?

I've seen such warnings on government and insurance forms - 'Under penalty of perjury, I hereby attest that all representations made by me are true...'
With Obamacare in force, who knows where else it may apply?

My reply would be “nunya”. When they say “excuse me?”, I will explain, “nunya bidness”.

If the current mental health mentality were in place forty years ago half us Vietnam vets would be locked in the loony bin.
That’s right.
Welcome Home!

Guns are completely out of line but the other questions are pretty much standard. I used to volunteer info on my drug and alcohol use to doctors when I did those things. It makes the doctors job easier and the treatment more effective. Reporting it to the state is another matter since it infringes on doctor patient confidentiality. Agreed the doctor if he/she is going to treat someone does have a right to ask about drugs and alcohol use. That is common sense as many medications can cause adverse reactions and it's their hides the patient would sue. But all answers should be confidential & released to involved staff only. It's none of the states business.

Having spent 20 years in clinical medicine this,on its face, doesn't sound unreasonable, largely due to the fact that alcohol and illegal drugs play such a huge role in damaging health. However,if it comes to pass that a patient is reported to authorities for having refused to answer or having given a false answer...or,worse still, medical personnel are compelled by law to ask such questions and/or reveal answers to police/prosecutors/courts...then it becomes really bad.And you can be sure that Rats,at least, will want exactly that to happen.
I give blood regularly,as do many folks. You should hear some of the questions you're asked beforehand! Do you frequent hookers? Do you shoot drugs? Do you (a guy) take it up the ***? Etc,etc. As silly and embarrassing these questions are there's a legitimate medical reason for each.
