For Obama, loss of the Senate could be freeing
Wa Po ^ | 7-4-2014 | DANA MILBANK

There would be no more excuses for Republicans’ failure to put forward their own health-care plan, immigration proposals, specific cuts to popular government programs, and pet causes involving abortion, birth control and gay rights. This would set up real clashes with Obama — who could employ the veto pen he hasn’t used a single time since Republicans gained control of the House in 2010 — and sharp contrasts that would put him on the winning side of public opinion.

It is not hard to imagine a Republican takeover of the Senate causing conservatives in both chambers to overreach. House Republicans would get more pressure from their base to take a swing at impeachment, because the odds of convicting Obama in the Senate would be better (if still prohibitive). Alternatively, Republican leaders, recognizing that the public will hold them responsible now that they have complete control of Congress, might try to compromise with Obama.

In the first scenario, marauding conservatives drive Republicans to oblivion in 2016 and beyond, putting Hillary Clinton in the White House. In the second scenario, Obama actually accomplishes something in his last two years.

Of course, there is a third scenario, in which a Republican Senate majority only makes Obama miserable.

You can only laugh at the MSM spinning Obama losing the senate as a GOOD THING.

This is as dumb as the media saying Hostages getting killed in Tehran would be good for Jimmah’s legacy.

Again repeating a complete lie.

Kaiser Health News, Nov. 4, 2009:

House Republicans unveiled their 219-page health care overhaul legislation Tuesday night. The GOP asserts it would lower health care premiums for families and small businesses and that it would be a far less costly and intrusive approach to helping the uninsured than the Democratic proposals in the House and Senate. It is not expected to garner enough support to pass.

No worries, Harry Reid will be running things until they drag his Fossilized Body out of the Chamber.

Not a single time!

I guess Dana Milbank missed it that the Dems have controlled the Senate all that time. Harry Reid wouldn't let anything through that Obama would have to veto.

The rest of Milbank's column is equally dishonest.

Based on the most recent polls, there is NO reason to believe that the Democrats will lose the Senate.

Ha, you’re so right. But he’ll never lose them. And one has to be pretty far gone to believe that Obama benefits from losing the Senate. We’re used to the MSM trying to delude us. Now, we see that one of their own has decided to delude himself.

Exactly. With RINOs using get out the vote efforts for Demorat voters, not looking likely the Senate will be taken.

The MSM though is already spinning it as a good thing for Obama. That’s a good sign they know something...

The only way this sentence works is if Obama is NOT a 100% narcissistic traitor, and that ain’t happening.

Obama has not used the veto pen. This is journalism? Perhaps that is because nothing gets signed by the Senate.

If the Republicans take the Senate, we will see a record number of vetoes and properly so. The real obstructionist will finally be on record.

They said the same crap 20 years ago when Newt and Co. We’re on the verge of running Congressional dems out of town.

I personally think the GOP will fall short this time, but it is enjoyable to watch LiberalLand squirm rationalize their way to self-comfort.

“For Obama, loss of the Senate could be freeing”

The fourth option is that Obama loses his job due to the corruption and incompetency!
