The Ruger 10/44. Had a chance to buy one cheap a while back. Wish I’d grabbed it.
OK, sounds right.
OK, my son went to pick up some components to start out with. Stuff is hard to find in stock locally.
H-110 powder, Federal LP mag primers, Sierra 210 JSP.
I’m going to start with 26.5 grains of H-110.
That will give about 1950+ fps out of the 18 1/2” carbine barrel.
The barrel on the Ruger 77/44 is 1-20 RH rifling.
With a .16 BC it will have well over 1,000 fpe at 100 yds and nearly 900 fpe at 150 yds.
If that load proves accurate I may just stick with that one.
That yields a Taylor KO factor of 25. ( The 30/06 with a 150 gr at 3,000 fps is only a TKO factor of 19.)
I’m thinking it will kill a deer.

44 Mag rifles are flying off the shelves in MI and OH now.
Both states just made them legal for deer hunting this fall. The dealers can’t keep anything in stock.
I bought mine on Gunbroker.com and had it shipped to a local dealer.
post 43 has my load that I settled on to start with.
Sounds about right. That 210 is a fine pill.
My cousin owned one and I’ve seen the effects of the .44cal mag. Amen.
I don’t know the correct term off the top of my head, but they aren’t pinched down/tapered on the brass next where the lead goes. The brass wall is straight up to the bullet.
Here’s the term from the regs: “straight walled rifle cartridges”
Right, it is a straight walled case, generally for revolvers and used in carbine rifles.
I just wasn’t following...
