I won’t watch one of these eating contests for fear of seeing someone choke to death. Choking is a big fear of mine.

Mine too. I recently overcame a psychological disorder called phagophobia (yes, it’s pronounced fagophobia). It’s a great fear of swallowing, and for several weeks I had trouble swallowing food. I finally went to a doctor for it and he prescribed anti-anxiety medication and I got better. But I will not eat hot dogs. I have heard of too many people either choking or nearly choking on them.
