We have a second home (fully paid) in the north woods of a northern state and we have the resources to live a comfortable but scaled back lifestyle there. My wife refuses to do so at this time so we are both cought up in this infernal rat race.

It might just take some time. And for events to play out in this country that will scare her. We had a wee cabin in the Sierras and had planned on doing the same thing with it 'someday'. Hubby just wanted to keep making money for an indeterminate amount of time though. In my mind, the cabin was our retreat and we could at least go there if things collapsed.

One day he came home from work, saying the boss was trying to get him to do something unethical. He had to decide if his days there were numbered or not. I wholeheartedly agreed that he should do the right thing, job or not, so he reported his boss. The whole episode turned him off working there. It even turned him off working at his current occupation. He had just hit a wall.

So you never know what might happen to turn your wife around. We went from retiring at the cabin in 10 years to moving across the country back to the US and buying a farm in ONE year. Now, that was a big quicket than I wanted and is scary for me since we don't have the money saved I had calculated we need.

But if he's willing to go - and is now the one pushing the move - I'm going!

So, much luck to you. Things can change in strange ways. Keep me informed!
