Recently I was involved with a business meeting with another officer of our company with a woman seeking a contracting job with our company.
We went out to lunch for a long meeting to discuss what we were looking for and what she had to offer. After our meeting, she said something like "I'm sure you guys would like to discuss this with one another if I'm a match or not. I would like to excuse myself to the restroom." She then took her purse, put it in the middle of the table and left for the restroom.
We then started discussing our initial thoughts and concerns about our meeting with her. A while later she came back to rejoin us, and later on in the week, she sent us an email discussing possible objections we might have to hiring her.
The guy that I met with is convinced that she left a recorder inside her purse and and then put the purse in front of us to capture our conversation. He says "a woman would never leave her purse on the table with some guys she just met! She was recording us!"
I don't know what is normal for carrying and leaving a purse, so my question is for the women here. How odd is it that she left purse on the table with us while she went to the restroom? Odd enough to have suspicions about being recorded?
Yeah, why aren’t they required to read us our Miranda rights first?
Okay guys, here’s how it works:
1. You were recorded. I’m shocked that wasn’t obvious. I would have stated the obvious and then discussed sports until she came back. (Note: this stunt can also be pulled leaving a phone on the table instead of a purse. It’s not as obvious with a better result. Always assume you are being recorded in today’s society. So sad.)
2. I never leave my purse in public. It’s always on my person (as is my firearm).
3. At work, I never take my purse to the bathroom when I change a tampon. I slip the tampon in the front of my bra. However, I always take my purse to the bathroom so I can brush my teeth.
Hope this helps solve the mystery of a woman’s purse.... :)
That’s the first thing I thought of. Not somebody I would trust about anything.
The purse may not have had a recording device, but that guy you “met with?” Promote him.
I think she was recording you too. I usually don’t even leave my purse with my husband.
She is very manipulative and I would stay as far away from her as possible. You don’t want to be associated with anyone that sneaky.
AKA the SB.
I had to click on his profile to see if he was a Limey.
When I was a hiring manager we interviewed in one area, talked in another.
I was doing start ups at the time I spent half an hour reviewing the prospects work experience and then turned the Supervisors, for whom they might work on them.
Talked in the talk area, voted and then sent an up or down to HR.
What’s W.C. other than “water cooler”?
:: At work, I never take my purse to the bathroom when I change a tampon. I slip the tampon in the front of my bra. However, I always take my purse to the bathroom so I can brush my teeth. ::
Ummmm, why would you need to brush your teeth after changing you tampon?
Whats W.C. other than water cooler?
Whiskey Cabinet!
I am not a woman but I have NEVER seen a woman willingly leave her purse behind with strangers.
Never would ANY woman leave it! Whether I need what’s in it or not, where I go, it goes!
‘I think she was recording you’
I hope she was cause this could get humorous, keep us up to date.
She just plopped her purse down in the middle of the dinner table? How weird. I might leave mine under my chair if I was going to wash my hands or something. But leaving in on the table is just plain rude and intrusive. I don’t know of any other women who would do that either.
Water Closet.
My purse never leaves my side when I’m out in public. MNDude, you were recorded.
Sorry to read this, and to answer your query; us women never leave our purses unattended, ever.
A woman who left her purse with two people she just met? I wouldn’t hire her, because she’s either up to something (like recording your conversation) or she’s an idiot (leaving her purse with people she doesn’t know). If she doesn’t look after her own assets, how well will she protect company assets?
No way would I walk away from my handbag and I don’t know of any woman who would do that. You are right to be suspicious.
Don’t leave us haging, Dude.
Tell us what you guys said when she was in the restroom.
