The probe was prompted by the complaint of a parent, who said members must swear secrecy oaths "about objectionable traditions and customs," including members marching across the field in their underwear -- witnesses described it as the "Midnight Ramp" -- under the supervision of band directors and staff.

That kind of stuff has been going on with TBDBITL since at least 1968. Of course back then the program was all male and surviving the hazing was a badge of honor. What was sophomoric humor back then, is not appropriate in retrospect. It is going to take more than firing the director to clean up the mess if the charges of sexual harassment / abuse are true. Of course there is irony in this as many Ohio State fans have been among the most vocal critics of the pedophile scandal at Penn State.

As if OSU is the only band where this is going on.

I agree with you. It happens even at the high school level. The moral equivalency game though still does not make it right. As an alum of the Big Farm in Columbus, such news events are embarrassing, especially since TOSU tries to project a holier than thou attitude to the public.

Well, logic says that some “guilty” verdicts would be quickly rendered, but if the baton twirlers are included there would certainly be some “not guilty” verdicts.

If marching across the field in underwear was good enough for bill Clinton it should be ok for them too.

I was in marching band at Purdue and we never had any hazing even approaching this level, and certainly not under the supervision of the staff.

Hazing young adults is bad enough, but that is nada compared to the multi-year cover up of a pedophile coach. Those were actual children - not young adults - that were abused! Your comparison for irony purposes is ridiculous.
