The South is fairly happy, as are the mountain states. The area south and east of the Great Lakes is very unhappy, while the west coast is unhappy.
The happiness seems to correlate well with amount of sunshine, which is quite common. I would suspect that this survey was done in the cooler months, when the west coast and the Great-Lake areas get lots of gloomy clouds and rain.

Speaking of seasons, climates and weather, this reminds me... the map does not include Alaska and Hawaii and the territories...

The food may have something to do with it. We are always having festivals centered around eating and there is some good food to be had down here.

Louisiana, where the men cook and the women know all about football.

Having lived here 10 and a half years I've noticed when I go up North I find the food rather bland. The McDonalds down here have a spicy McChicken. We were somewhere up north and my son wanted to order one but the Mcdonalds up there did not carry them.
