Glad the “heiress” took Lady in. We have taken our share of older dogs dumped by callous people.
We’ve had over forty dogs since we’ve been married (36 years). Mostly they last a couple of years as they are generally quite old, and require some veterinary attention, but they need homes just like the pups. It’s a heartache due their age, but worth it as the older dogs are generally very loving animals with a history, and just want a home.
Haven’t ever had a regretful situation with one yet. Hope never will.
Well we almost always get the rescues who show up abandoned in our yard or on our street. Have not gotten a loser yet. We could not have gotten two better dogs than Buddy our Beagle who just died at 17 plus years or Coco our cute little Chihuahua. We are waiting to see who shows up next. :-)
You are wonderful! 40 dogs in 36 years - wow! My husband and I take in old rescue dogs as well. We’ve only had three. They are the sweetest things. I lost one of them a year ago - only had her two years. I thought I’d have her longer and was shocked when we lost her. She was eleven so I shouldn’t have been surprised.
I can’t even look at the photo of the old dog. She looks so tired, poor thing. We don’t have “Lassie” endings anymore, I guess.
Only regrets I have ever had with my older adoptee’s, is that they have to go to the Rainbow Bridge without me.
Breaks my heart every time; but I am so stupid, I just keep doing it.
My wife says I am just a sucker for “THAT LOOK”, guess she’s right.
