One of my buddies works at Rahal (Indy car).
It’s a big hit for them, Guard was most of their sponsor money.
The irony is they poached the deal from another team who had it in 2013 by bidding low for this year. The other team went out of business and just auctioned off all their stuff last week.

It is a board game. It comes with a double-sided track board, and all the additional boards are separate purchase expansions.

This is a fan-made computer program to play the game.

Chip Ganassi to be honored with 1st Argetsinger Award

Presentation set for Aug. 7 at Corning dinner

Special to The Odessa File

WATKINS GLEN, July 3 -- Chip Ganassi, who fields teams in the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Verizon INDYCAR and TUDOR United SportsCar Championship series, will be honored on Aug. 7 by the International Motor Racing Research Center at the Corning Museum of Glass.

Ganassi will receive the inaugural Cameron R. Argetsinger Award for his outstanding contributions to motorsports. Often referred to as the father of American road racing, Argetsinger was a visionary who, in 1948, conceived, organized, and drove in the first post-war road race in America through the roads of Watkins Glen. He brought Formula 1 to Watkins Glen International in 1961 and the circuit hosted the United States Grand Prix for 20 years. He was president of the IMRRC for five years, until his death in 2008.

NASCAR, International Speedway Corporation (parent company of Watkins Glen International), and WGI are the presenting sponsors of the first IMRRC Award Dinner, the proceeds of which will benefit the IMRRC, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose mission is to be the world-class leader in the collection of materials representing the documentary heritage of amateur and professional motor racing.

"We are privileged to have NASCAR, ISC and WGI support the IMRRC Award Dinner honoring Chip Ganassi," said IMRRC President J.C. Argetsinger. "NASCAR and its partners have done a tremendous job in promoting world-wide awareness of the sport we've loved for so long. And Chip himself has put his heart and soul into the success of every team he owns, and it shows."

To date, Ganassi's teams have won 17 championships in his 24 years of ownership, including four Indy 500 titles. In 2012, the Duquesne University graduate and former part owner of his hometown Pittsburgh Pirates, was named one of the "50 most influential people in the Auto Industry" by Complex Magazine.

"Chip Ganassi's accomplishments and successes as a car owner have transcended across a wide spectrum of motorsports," said Mike Helton, NASCAR President. "His contributions have positively impacted NASCAR, IndyCar, the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and beyond. Chip is an outstanding competitor, savvy team owner and is passionate about his work. The France Family and all of NASCAR congratulate Chip on being the first recipient of the Cameron R. Argetsinger Award for outstanding contributions to motorsports."

"Chip Ganassi is a titan in the racing community. His leadership and business acumen have grown Chip Ganassi Racing from a one-car team to a powerhouse in the industry," said John Saunders, President, International Speedway Corporation. "Owning multiple teams across different racing series is no small task, yet he continues to find success at the upper echelons of professional motorsports. Congratulations to Chip on this prestigious honor and on behalf of International Speedway Corporation, I wish him many more years of continued success.”

Added Michael Printup, President, Watkins Glen International, “Chip Ganassi is a competitor in the truest sense of the word. You always know that Ganassi teams will be a factor in any race and in any series in which they compete. It’s remarkable to think of the success they’ve found at some of the most historic and prestigious venues in the world. Yet, Chip has done more than just build winners, he has also built professionals. His teams and employees are among the best in the garage to work with and we’re always excited to see them compete at Watkins Glen International. On behalf of the entire team at Watkins Glen International, I’d like to congratulate Chip on this most deserving honor.“

The IMRRC Award Dinner will be held on the Thursday prior to the NASCAR Sprint Cup event at Watkins Glen International. Cocktails are at 5:30 p.m., and dinner at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $250 per person. To purchase tickets, tables, or sponsorship packages, go to http://www.racingarchives.org/special_event.php, or call 607-535-9044. Seats are limited, so it is recommended that reservations be made soon.

Other event supporters include Sahlen Packing Co. Inc., Corning Incorporated, Benjamin F. Edwards & Co., Chevrolet, SCCA, Welliver and Glenora Wine Cellars.

Wallace inducted into Center’s Walk of Fame

Retired NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace was present Friday afternoon for a ceremony on North Franklin Street in Watkins Glen celebrating his induction into the Watkins Glen Walk of Fame, a project of the International Motor Racing Research Center. Wallace, winner of 55 NASCAR races and a member of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, joins more than 100 racers honored in Watkins with markers embedded in village sidewalks. His marker is located in front of the Unique Country Boutique. “I’m very honored,” Wallace told a crowd gathered for the occasion. “This is amazing. Watkins Glen is one of my favorite tracks.” After the unveiling of the marker, Wallace moved inside the Boutique to sign autographs.

Good Morning Race Fans!

Watkins Glen medical center named for Ernie Thurston:

Watkins Glen International announced the dedication of their infield care center to area native and long-time safety and emergency services leader, Ernie Thurston. The naming of the Ernie Thurston Medical Center took place Friday morning at a ribbon cutting ceremony. After spending a lifetime in the service of others, Thurston passed away in November. A native of Watkins Glen, NY, Thurston returned to his hometown after serving as an Airman First Class in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Shortly after his return, Thurston served as deputy sheriff and fire coordinator for Schuyler County, and held public office as a county legislator. In 1985, Thurston became the Director of Race Operation at Watkins Glen International. Thurston’s wealth of knowledge and passion for safety and emergency services lead him to Daytona Beach, FL and International Speedway Corporation headquarters, where he oversaw all race facilities and events as Corporate Coordinator of Track Safety and Emergency Services. After many years of service, Thurston was posthumously named the 2014 Jim Bockoven Lifetime Achievement Award winner by NASCAR. The Jim Bockoven Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes the contributions of an individual made to the improvement of track services over the course of a career spanning 10 or more years. This award is not awarded annually, therefore the recipient’s contributions must be considered to be exemplary.(WGI)(8-9-2014)

NASCAR issuing more penalties on blend line violations:

NASCAR continued its crack-down on drivers violating the blend line, issuing penalties during Friday’s Sprint Cup and Nationwide practices at Watkins Glen International. The issue is when drivers leave pit road and enter the track. They are required to have all four tires below the solid yellow line. They cannot blend on to the racing groove until the line becomes dotted. If they do before that, it is a penalty. Richard Buck, Cup series director said that NASCAR had warned drivers about the issue but it continued to happen. NASCAR began penalizing drivers last weekend at Pocono Raceway by forcing them to pass through pit road before resuming practice. NASCAR penalized Greg Biffle in practice at Pocono and Jimmie Johnson in the first round of qualifying last weekend. Friday, Clint Bowyer, Austin Dillon, Aric Almirola and Michael Annett had pass-through penalties for violating the blend-line rule in the first Cup practice session. Ryan Newman was penalized in the final Cup practice session. Among those penalized in the Nationwide Series for the same violation were Trevor Bayne and Ryan Reed.(Motor Racing Network)(8-9-2014)

Earnhardt, Jr. talks about National Guard sponsorship:

Dale Earnhardt Jr. said Friday he hoped to continue representing the National Guard despite the organization announcing Wednesday it will pull its $32 million sponsorship. Hendrick Motorsports, Earnhardt’s team, said it has not heard from the Guard directly and plans to honor a contract which goes through next season. “We really don’t have any details on anything, and that’s between the Guard and HMS to sort all that out,” Earnhardt said prior to practice at Watkins Glen International. “I’ve really enjoyed working with them over the last seven years and I hope to be able to continue to represent them. It’s been a huge honor.” Earnhardt was asked if he was surprised by the news, which came on the heels of his third victory of the season - the most in a single season since 2004. “You know, there’s been the debate in Washington for several years,” he said. “Hopefully, we’ll be able to continue to represent them. I really have enjoyed it, and it’s been a great, great seven years. It’s been a great partnership and I think it’s been very effective. Hopefully we can continue to do that.”(USA Today) (8-9-2014)
