Gov. Deval Patrick, who welcomed himself into the Corner Office with $12,000 damask drapes, is ushering himself out with a high-tech, luxury makeover — complete with marble countertops, facial recognition security cameras, blast-resistant windows and an emergency bunker with six plasma screen TVs — all for $11.3 million, more than $2 million over budget.

“For a governor who isn’t spending a lot of time at the State House, he could definitely get to the (MEMA) bunker in Framingham a lot faster from his mansion in western Massachusetts than to the new one in Boston,” said watchdog Barbara Anderson of Citizens for Limited Taxation.

“The priority is never on keeping the costs down, and they never stay on budget, and yet we keep electing them. Now that he has his special bunker, the Legislature is going to want to remodel — it’s just what they do,” Anderson said.

Patrick’s massive Corner Office renovation, including new drapes and furniture, historically accurate paint, molding and architectural features, as well as the high-tech “situation room,” was initially budgeted at $9 million. But unspecified cost overruns have driven it up to $11.3 million, the governor’s office acknowledged.

“This is what you can expect from a lame-duck governor with other people’s money to spend,” said David Tuerck of the Beacon Hill Institute. “It reflects the elitism that is so characteristic of him and the other politicians with whom he identifies, including the president of the United States, that he would feel entitled to this kind of luxury. ... It’s disgraceful and embarrassing.”

Speaker Robert A. DeLeo is now planning a $20 million makeover of the House chamber.

Doesn’t that state have anyone who holds the purse strings? This is crazy for what I presume is a lame duck governor. I hesitate to say the voters are the guilty party here,because only the living ones can speak for themselves. Visited that state once. Once was plenty.

Uber-liberal Massachusetts erupted into a massive protest when they discovered gray-haired illegal latino men were enrolling in their high schools claiming they were 17-yrs old and had no documentation.

School policy is to check w/ family---who said the man was a 35-year old adult.

E-coli comes from unclean bathroom habits---it has been found on the handles of supermarket carts..... so its no stretch that it can be found on school buses, on school equipment and in school cafeterias.

Liberal moms sending their perfectly groomed and gifted children to local schools are learning their illegal classmates are carriers of diseases the US wiped out a generation ago b/c of mandatory inoculations. .......lice, scabies, TB, whooping cough, swine flu, meningitis are Third World diseases being carried here.
