Missteps in handling the Ebola virus in the U.S. can’t be repeated

Sure they can. Just watch...

Joe...it’s pretty apparent the ball was dropped....I see no good coming out of this entire situation as attorneys will be lining up to take the family’s case against the hospital....

It is enough to make you wonder if the fatcats will get a kickback from the trial lawyers. This could make the Tobacco settlement look like peanuts.

Exactly.....though maybe the family will agree to a quick settlement...with some pressure from Washington to do so...the quicker this family is out of the media the better actually....it’s playing out like a sick soap-opera, and a deadly one at that!

That's the sad part. The poor SOB flees, allegedly to be married (If he does survive, they'd better not consummate that for a while)-- possibly infects a host of others and then dies...

Or is that just one scenario, the sugar-coated version we're supposed to buy?

Real enemies of the US would look to spot someone hauling a corpse in the Hot Zone with no PPE, and say:

"Hey, You!...Look, pal, you are a dead man walking. Tellya what, we'll pay you enough to keep your loved ones flush, buy you a ticket to the best doctors on the planet, and all you have to do is go there and party until the bug hits you, you know, go out on the town, press the flesh, do a couple of hookers, whatever turns your crank... and then maybe the best doctors and hospitals in the world will be able to save you, too. Whaddya say?"

Yep. They'd make 'em an offer they couldn't refuse.

At this point, I'm not believing anything, just waiting for the reports of "military training accidents" to start in three weeks or so...

There is so much going on, it is hard to fit together. Here is another piece of the puzzle I posted on this THREAD.

Excellent!

Finally, someone 'gets it'.

In my work environment, there is a substance which while not necessarily hazardous, seems to get everywhere if not strictly contained.

Since that environment includes everything from working with heavy equipment to microscope work in the lab, to working with a computer, fastidiously containing the material is a must, otherwise things get messy all around.

It makes one aware of horizontal, vertical, and other surfaces which need to be policed habitually, and that a little dab can be spread to a host of locations by unconscious acts.

Hence, I understand the hazard of fomites very well, even though what I am dealing with is not a lethal bioagent, just messy. It splatters, too...and I have been 'nailed' (accidentally) by someone who turned with a pressure washer still going and thoroughly splattered me.

Experience has taught me to avoid touching what does not need to be touched, especially where the substance is abundant, and to be ever alert for its presence. The alternative is ruined clothing, the potential to ruin equipment, and far too much time spent cleaning instead of getting the work done. While that is a relatively minor inconvenience and far from potentially lethal, it has been an education.

Most people are oblivious when they enter such a work environment, and those who have not, with the exception of a few germophobes, generally have no clue.

....”At this point, I'm not believing anything, just waiting for the reports of “military training accidents” to start in three weeks or so...”....

Hard not to think like that with so much conflicting from one report to the other. The public unfortunately wants it NOW, and when they wait til they have the story right it gets tweaked anyway. So who knows.

What we do know is Duncan defiantly has Ebola and possibly exposed others to it...that's really all we know with any certainty. Everything else about this family is just soap-opera..... He's here and hospitalized ...all else is wait and see.

This is just unfreakin’ bizarre. And he works in a nursing home too? Where patients often have compromised immune systems? Whoever it was that made that ruling is just INSANE and that’s a fact-Jack.

The daughter sounds like the only halfway sensible person in the whole bunch - including the authorities. She at least told the ambulance crew to go back and get their masks and gloves.

I just hope she had on medical exam gloves, mask, etc when she took his temperature and gave him tea, but she probably didn’t.
