Local security forces, manned mostly by former members of the Kurdish militia, the peshmerga, are more capable than those in other parts of Iraq.

(When using "he" or "him" to refer to Barack Obama, is it still okay to use the lower case "h"?)

I dated a Lebanese girl in college whose father was a Peshmerga soldier in the late 70s. He was a fierce man.

If they have a traumatic experience in combat, they go peshugganah.

Pesh-merga (Kurdish word & pronunciation). Peesh-marga (Persian word & pronunciation). Both mean same thing, ‘near or face/confront death’. Btw, no need to add ‘s’ at the end. Merga or Marga is already plural both in Kurdish & Persian. Merg or Marg is the singular form.

Aloha! Been awake since 3 am here with the time change. Waiting for sunrise to walk on the beach. This place is spectacular.

Perhaps it is high time we supplied the peshmerga with the weapons they need to halt the threat of ISIL.

An interesting change of pace-
Today we’re foreign word-ish
And an interesting definition
Of warriors who are Kurdish
It spells right out that they
Will go medieval or berserker-
And when a battle is imminent
There’s nothing like a shirker
I’m out of verses for that one...
