I have Malwarebytes (Premium) scan my system daily. Never a problem anymore.
There's a 14 day free trial at the link above.
Bye.
Wow. I would never guess that your problem would be malware.
It’s a good thing you sought the advice here. You found out and so did I.
I’m glad you started this post, though I am not getting ads on FR, I did learn something.
Sorry, and I would never state that on the forum and show just what a neophyte computer user I was. Either that or you have a parasite in your eyeball.. but I doubt that
Look like so far you haven’t been missed.
Yup, you are infected with malware.
You still here?
It’s something called Ad Choices and I suffer with it too.
When you download software, etc. it comes with it and winds up screwing up your browsing experience with ads. “You can close this window in 10 seconds.” Usually there’s no sound but sometimes it has a brief blip.
Ad CHOICES? I didn’t choose it. No wait, I did...by downloading software and now unless I pull some kind of miracle out I’m stuck with it.
Of course some pages will help you get ride of Ad Choices, maybe for a price.

>>WHY DO I SEE ADCHOICES ADS ON MY COMPUTER?
AdChoices starts showing its ads as soon as it installs on its target PC. In most of the cases, users unintentionally agree to install this adware on their computers when they download freeware or shareware. Besides, according to victims, Incredibar and Babylon may also be a cause of AdChoices redirects. If you want to prevent this or any other adware, don’t forget to keep an eye on the installation process of the freeware. You should choose a Custom or Advanced installation and uncheck unfamiliar check marks. If AdChoices gets inside the system, this program may start initiating serious havoc there. Beware that its ads may redirect you to unsafe websites that distribute not only promoted products but malware as well. That’s why we don’t recommend leaving AdChoices on computer.
HOW TO REMOVE ADCHOICES?
In order to remove AdChoices ads, you should scan your PC with updated anti-spyware at first. In addition, check the manual removal guide and get rid of this adware-type application for good:
The ads go away when you become a paid member. Yeah sure - I want to pay for: a) a website using 1993 technology; b)no mobile app; c) cannot link to social media sites like facebook, twitter, pinterest, etc. This site is becoming less and less relevant every day. All of you old geezers can stay. Im moving on.You just pointed out 3 of my favorite characteristics of Free Republic and I hope it stays that way. You appear to have zero appreciation for such a site as this which loads very quickly, is almost always available, never subjects you to advertising, and doesn't make you pay for a premium membership. Not to mention the splendid company and conversations. With an attitude such as yours, you certainly will not be missed. Take care now ;)
Google Ghostery and add it to your browser. I just started using it today and its wonderful.
Malwarebytes. Get it, run it, love safe...
No, that will just exacerbate the problem, their computer is obviously overheating, so they need to open it up and put ice inside to cool it off!
No ads, on my Mac or DH’s Lenovo. Where would they go? (top, left, right, bottom- ????)
That’s inaccurate.
Your beeber has been stuned!
I had it happen recently but it went away after a several scans with Avast.
