Study: At Least 740,000 Wisconsinites Face Food Insecurity

MADISON, Wis. – In the land of cheese and bratwurst, a surprising 740,000 Wisconsinites are worried about going hungry. A recent study by the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health shows a significant portion of the state's population is worried about not having enough to eat.

Lead researcher Dr. Javier Nieto said it isn't just a problem in the rural areas of the state.

"We also found more than six percent of respondents in suburban, wealthier areas, also responding 'yes' to the question about whether families have been concerned about having enough food for their family in the past 12 months," Nieto said. "Our estimate is probably conservative, because our definition is pretty strict."

While there is a correlation between food insecurity and poverty, Nieto said it appears to be a problem in every part of Wisconsin.

"The prevalence of concern about hunger ranged from about 9.5 percent in the west and south to 14 percent in the northeast and southeast," said Nieto. "But again, differences are fairly small."

I call B.S. They’re running this to make Governor Walker look bad - like he’s starving us all out.

I’d laugh if this weren’t so PATHETIC.

Worried about not having enough to eat, or worried about not being able to catch a pizza before the game?

This is anti-Scott Walker bullsh*t. I'm not buying this noise one bit.

Well, more rolled oats for the preppers...

“And the Obamadorks, Hollywood, and DC had better hope they never see what’s gonna happen when the white guys start acting like our friends in the ‘hood.”

I remember Michael Savage said years ago that these ethnic groups who are robbing, killing, beating, or otherwise terrorizing whitey are now feeling emboldened because the whites have yet to fight back.

He went on to say that when the whites finally have had enough and do fight back - it won't be pretty. Nobody fights like the white boy.

Just today I was pretty worried about being able to get out for lunch. It was a close one, and I was getting hungry.

More than 330,000 people in eastern Wisconsin rely on Feeding America for food.

My guess is that this encourages a population movement from Illinois into Wisconsin.

Poor people (on food stamps) are fine. They get up to $200 a month for one person. It’s people who work and have to spend their own money on food after they pay their other bills that are having a tough time affording groceries. Especially with meat costing 2-3 times what it did a couple of years ago. I can’t believe the cost of food isn’t a huge issue. If there was a Republican president there would be stories of hungry families on every front page and news program.

“Food Insecurity”

More newspeak.

Bag of rice + bag of potatoes + cans of beans and corn = Plenty to eat.

” If there was a Republican president there would be stories of hungry families on every front page and news program.”

For some reason the GOP chooses not to press aggressively the following winning issues:
1) High inflation - particularly food, energy, and healthcare prices
2) Illegal immigration
3) Crime
4) Obamacare repeal
5) Jobs - 90 million Americans without jobs. Part time jobs replacing full time.
6) IRS
7) Foreign policy debacles.

Instead they seem content let the administration and the press choose the playing field which is: race, race, race.

This year the Midwest has a gigantic surfeit of corn, and while man may not live on corn alone, it is a really good start. And with minimal work, people can raise chickens, that usually like cracked corn or cooked corn.

And for a few years, potatoes have had a bumper crop as well, at the peak of the season selling for as little as $1 for 10 pounds. Likely they still have more deer than they know what to do with.

The best bet, which has been done before to great success, is to set up church food banks, which can take a lot of pressure off public food banks. By caring for their congregations, they might slash 20-30 people from the public food bank rolls. This matters a lot.

Y’know... I’m about to head over to the snack machine and am a bit insecure about the prospects of it containing a bag of peanuts.

Yup. We don't start things, but we do finish them.

It only takes about 15 minutes of surfing on FR to see what the endgame looks like.

The whole thing is total b.s. The local tv station just had this “food insecurity” and “food desert” thing on my hometown of La Crosse, Wisc. If you go to La Crosse, I’ll guarantee you’ll see few starving wraithes standing on the street corners begging for a cup of gruel. You will see quite a few very “well-fed” citizens.
