Good question, although wouldn’t that be about the rank of a senior operative actually in the field? Are their full colonels or generals actually doing stuff hands-on?

The Lt Cols are the workhorses of the officer corps, and many of the best ones leave and go on to much greener pastures as soon as they reach retirement age because they have better options.
