A pair of high-profile NFL rookies crossed paths Saturday night -- a meeting highlighted by Michael Sam mimicking Johnny Manziel.

Sam, the first openly gay active player in NFL history, mocked Manziel's "money sign" after sacking the Heisman Trophy winner in the fourth quarter of the St. Louis Rams' preseason victory over the Cleveland Browns.

I’ve read that Michael plays wide receiver.

Imagine the screaming and gnashing of teeth if Mr Football mocked a gay, black man. Oh the humanity!!! Imagine if Johnny had grabbed his crotch or some sort of similar action. He would be banned from football for life. Double standard? Of course. One is black and gay, the other white and straight. Enough said.

Manziel may not even last this season. Manziel thinks he could play like Michael Vick, but unfortunately, Vick in his early years in the NFL was just about the fastest person on the field running and was actually a bit underrated as a passer. In short, Vick in his prime was a way better player than Manziel will ever be.

If that’s taunting then it’s taunting every time Manziel does it too. Since it isn’t directed at a player (ie in their face) it’s not taunting. Face it, there’s nothing wrong with what he did, other than the showboating aspect, it’s all very normal NFL stuff. If you take down a guy with a signature celebration you get to do his signature celebration. Been going on since the first time a guy got a signature celebration.

Yea. He’s not playing in the SEC now. The best defensive player in the SEC last year and the year before, most certainly as an NFL prospect, was Jadeveon Clowney. Clowney was drafted first. Sam was drafted eight from the last.

But did Clowney totally get pwned at the Combine? And did he bring a gigantic media circus with him?
I’d look at those 2 things and think drafting Sam is like asking for a migraine..

He didn’t do anything that countless other players don’t do without getting in trouble. If he did it while standing over Manziel, then that would violate the rules. But he walked away from Manziel before doing it.

Did anyone who taunted Tebow after a sack get fined?

The difference is that manziels gesture is considered obscene

I think you’re confusing gestures. This wasn’t Johnny flipping the bird, which is what he got fined for. This was a totally different signature “Look at Me” move, and he deserved the mocking.

The thing is, the SEC was way down in defense compared to previous years.

Yes, that’s what I said.

But flipping the bird wasn’t the specific gesture Sam replicated - he mocked instead Manziel’s usual gesture, rubbing two fingers to indicate “money”.

Had Sam flipped the bird, that’s different. But that’s not what he did.
