I agree.
I don’t think a real medical unit in the Korean War was anything like what was portrayed on MASH.
One could say the same about the POW camp portrayed by Hogan’s Heroes.
But at least HH was truly hilarious which is far more than we could ever say about MASH.
HH was never intended to portray a real war. It was brilliantly conceived and executed farce.
M*A*S*H went to hell as soon as Trapper John and Henry Blake left and liberal BJ showed up. Then the show had to have “meaning,” and in doing so disregarded its purpose as a comedy. Hawkeye got serious, Margaret turned nice, Potter was everyone’s favorite old uncle and the cross-dresser became normalized.
