Howard Cosell had a variety show at the time called “Saturday Night Live” on ABC, which is why the original NBC show was “Saturday Night”.
Once Cosell’s show got the boot, NBC changed it to “Saturday Night Live.”
Got it
In think the ful lame had nbc in the title originally
It got the moniker of "Saturday Night Live" because TV Guide listed the show as "Saturday Night" followed by the small print "-live".
Even though Don Pardo would say "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!" the listing in TV Guide said "Saturday Night-Live".
