Sadly, that doesn’t surprise me.

He should have opted for the BLM donkeys. They are cheaper to feed and usually get along okay with cows.

I think every other property on this road and the one across the river have donkeys-I don’t know if they are BLM donkeys, but they are for sale at every livestock show and auction out here along with the llamas and other ranch animals. They are just as bad tempered as llamas, and they are way more vocal-there are two of them right across the road, and all I have to do is say hi there to them when I drive through the gate and they go into an earsplitting frenzy.

Yes. They are pretty inexpensive to acquire that way, if you have a trailer and can haul them to your land.

Yes-they have horses, too-better to get the animals away from BLM than to see them turned into steaks for
Europeans, or petfood. If I had the money and a couple more acres, I’d buy a donkey myself.

The ones around us are pretty quiet and only bray when there’s a coyote or other predator in the vicinity.

My compadre has a horse trailer-we used it to move some of my stuff-I just need more land and money.

There is a big horse sanctuary a few miles off the main FM that has been featured on Animal Planet a few times-they take a lot of the BLM horses, rehab them and adopt them out for work and riding horses/pets.

This gives “bum-rush” a different meaning:

Why does BLM have animals? Do they raise them on purpose or just happen to acquire them through other activities?

It is my understanding that the horses and donkeys are feral populations descended from the animals abandoned or escaped from everyone from the Spaniards and Indians to the prospectors. They just happen to be on BLM land, and apparently that is not much appreciated by the ass***es at BLM, who don’t seem to want anything there except what they consider “endangered” tortoises, lizards, fish and even plants.

Longhorn cattle were feral like that-got loose from the Spanish explorers who brought them over-but they were food, so by the time a hundred years or so had passed, they were gathered up again by ranchers like my own family who couldn’t afford to let a food resource that could be taken to market go to waste...

Good thing there aren’t any of those on BLM land-those bastards would slaughter them all just to keep any rancher from catching them and making an honest profit from them...
